Part 2. The wines

Premature posting problem- sorry

Here are the wines

The champagne was one of best champagnes I have drunk. Fine bead , minimal sugar , complex. , tasted of strawberries

The Chardonnay was old and did not taste like a Chardonnay bit had a sherry like finish and very oily and buttery

The josmeyer was the best white wine I have ever tasted. It had a lovely nose and long finish. Fruits and still some sugar , this was the epitome of an Alsace Riesling

What can one say about a mouton Rothschild from 1993. Another well balanced complex wine with minimal tannins - almost a feminine Cabernet , so soft but so fruity and intense

As an aside you can see there are 2 different labels. Baron Rothschild commissions a painter each year for the label. This year he commissioned Balthus who painted a nude. Too risqué for the USA market so they were sold without the painting, thus 2 different labels

The grange was the third one I have tasted in the last 3 months and this vintage was the best. Quite a big ballsy wine with some tannin but not overpowering

D Yquem- the best wine money can buy. It was sublime. ( the taste was a bit overpowered by the sweet desert ) and would have been better served with cheese but who is complaining

The port was a perfect finish to this meal.

Hope you enjoy this report

Julian
