On a steamy Friday afternoon, we retraced Tim's route in a '91 Lotus Elan

We drove to Vista on an errand, then since it was such a nice day, we decided to take the long way home... pretty much the route that Tim did in the Bimmer, minus Palomar Mountain turn-off.

I was equipped with the IWC perpetual / chrono / moon and my tired old Lotus which we've owned since 1993 or 94. Just now coming up on 50,000 miles!

It's springtime and the valleys are still green. On the map this is Rincon.

A little higher, a little drier.

There's Nate Harrison Road, where Tim declined to go off-roading. I slowed just enough to point it out to my wife / photographer.

At this point we start some serious climbing and curves. A nursery on the side of the road provides some exotic color foliage.

About 4000 feet elevation here

The turns are getting tighter, but the Lotus is low, short and wide, so it doesn't mind at all.

Lake Henshaw, nicely captured with a lovely tree too.

No smoking around here please, we've lost enough in prior years.

Santa Ysabel Reservation, and the Mission from 1818 (two hundred four years ago!?)

It was so hot up here, close to 80°F and my ear was getting toasted, so my wife came up with a solution, using materials found readily to hand

The cattle are lo'ing in the pasture

Still finding wildflowers out here, as we head back towards town.

We found a red Corvette across the street - possibly the same color code as these cars were distant cousins...

Thanks for riding with us, and Tim, thanks for the inspiration.
