Incoming (and yet another nautilus)…my first impressions of the 5990-1R
Of course, very happy to add this to my collection. First full rose gold for me and first thick cased nautilus. I’ve noticed that the 5990 (1A) is beloved to many, which curated my interest — the balanced dial, the complication, and the weight. On the R, the blue dial is gorgeous with the rose gold markers and full bracelet. It’s a beauty.
On the flip side, it’s a personal issue…I’m not so sure how I will wear this, as it’s A LOT of watch for me!!! It’s a bit top heavy, especially since I wear them loosely. Almost fitting like a deepsea. It’s also very noticeable in full rose gold. I think I would be too worried banging the watch around or getting noticed with it. I suppose I just need to get used to a watch of this magnitude…Sorry for seeming like im complaining…I’m not, really. No regrets here.

Wear it tight fitting rather than loose. Even a SS watch worn loose would damage the hinges of the bracelet if worn too often.
Congrats, this is a pretty spectacular 5990 iteration, Patek got it totally right here in my view! I had a chance to play with it for a while and its wrist presence is simply unbeatable! Of course, as you say, it IS *very* noticeable as well...

WHAOUAH Tim 😳, I knew I felt a disturbance in the force. The 5990 is a favorite of mine in the Nautilus line and if I had to choose only 1 Nautilus and could never change it, it would most likely be the 5990 due to the features and practically daily...

The t dial is I pretty cool, although I’m not sure why it’s crammed in the subdial at 6. I’m gonna try and rock this, but I do think this more along your style! Just trying to keep up here! 👍

Thank you for your kind words. I love the 5990. It is my favorite Nautilus. The steel version is a very practical, yet a complicated daily type wearer.
Is it better balanced? I don’t know about that. It is obviously lighter, but it is no light weight. I think you will adjust to the weight of the watch. And if you feel a bit self conscious about the gold aspect you can wear a soft fabric, loose fitting lo...
