Hublot Tutti Frutti part 1: Bling Bling

Over the past few months, I had posted a quick review of the Hublot Masterpiece collection MP-01 and the MP-02 which showcased different case designs and complications.  Most here know that they were actually redesigns of existing watches on the shelves when Hublot acquired BNB Concepts.  In the case of the MP-02, many felt that the Hublot MP-02 interpretation was an improvement to the aesthetics but was still not considered a new Hublot watch.  There were also comments that the case looked similar to the RM.  For me, I didn't quite understand the use of the speed up complication but I did like how Hublot put out a different design.

Maybe this is too radical for Hublot fans to accept?  I'm not sure, maybe the Big Bangs variations are simply extremely popular. So let's go back to looking at a few variations of the Big Bangs.

I noticed that recently our Hublot moderator KIH posted a fun set of pictures with a totally blinged out Big Bang with a diamond encrusted bezel, case, and central links on the bracelet.   And there was a press release a few weeks ago for the upcoming Baselworld 2013 where Hublot introduced a Big Bang Caviar red gold with diamonds and even a stainless version with diamonds.  Also my fellow moderator Ping Tsai posed a question in our Bulgari forum and asked 'why do men wear watches with diamonds?'.  So this made me think of my previous meetings with the Hublot staff on their Big Bang collection.  At that time, I was shown an incredible selection of color combinations for the Big Bang series.  At first I was a skeptical about the colors and the bling, but the more I looked at it the more I thought that this was a pretty good idea.  More importantly there were some details on the watches that were well thought out.

Let's start out with a few ladies watches.  I was viewing this collection with my fiance and she immediately went over to the tray with these colorful watches and started picking them up.  I was more drawn towards the blued colored collection since my favorite color is blue (more on this in a follow up post).  As we looked at the watches I noticed a few details that were in my opinion very nicely done.

The precious metal cases are midsized and the circular bezel is set with 48 baguette stones to match the color of case and strap.  The center and sides of the case have a colored composite resin insert flange that are perfect color matches to the strap and stones.

The dial has a shiny reflective mirrored surface and matching colored hour markers.  The straps are very comfortable and feature a colored gummy-alligator strap combination that has rubber on the inside and alligator on the top side.  To my eyes, all of these details makes everything just works together in harmony.

Here's a close up of the mirrored dial.  The hour, minute and seconds hands have matching colors applied to them.  The bezel and case have alternating polished and brushed finishes.

Just to goof around I tried one of the chronographs with a leopard colored version with alternating colored and clear precious stones.

And I found another version in a light blue pattern.  Similar to the leopard pattern one this was a larger 41mm cased chronograph with a Hublot HUB4300 self winding chronograph movement that has a standard power reserve of 42 hours.  A date window is displayed between the 4 and 5 o'clock position.

So what do you think?  Could you see yourself (or your significant other) wearing one of these blinged watches?  And how much bling would be too much?
