Define SPRING DRIVE in 25 words or less CONTEST

I've been thinking about my visits to three Grand Seiko dealers in the past few months:

 Los Angeles with AndrewD,
 Seattle on my boat trip,
London on a recent business visit...

None of the very friendly sales persons I talked with could articulate the operating principles of the SPRING DRIVE - what makes it different from (or the same as) Mechanical, Quartz or Kinetic.

So I am asking for Purists to take a crack at it.

In 25 words or less tell us what a SPRING DRIVE movement is or does; compare/contrast with what we DO understand.

I have a trip planned to visit Japan in October.

I'd love to take a succinct definition with me to offer to Seiko for their use. And there will be prizes!
