A stroll through Plovdiv, Bulgaria
Just going through some old pictures, including from a relatively eventful road trip from the North of Germany to Istanbul some years ago. We stopped in Plovdiv for lunch on one of the days and it is a fascinating city, even if probably not primarily designed with tourists in mind. Well worth a visit, though.
As one can see, the local inhabitants do not seem at all perturbed by tourists
This is a pretty good summary of the town - boring, or consistent it is not.
Some Roman ruins are still under repair - I imagine they would have been fully unearthed by now.
And here are some other Roman ruins, together with a much more complete, more recent architectural addition to the cityscape.
Lots of steps to be navigated in order to get to the top.
Yet a different style / era.
And finally, the view from the top - with another Roman architectural feature.
Some more details.
And some more.
And finally, because it seemed funny at the time - a 'White Steed' indeed. At the time the local production of the Great Wall Steed just started in Bulgaria.
As said - a place to be recommended if you are not averse to off the beaten track travel.
