A few interesting wines
at a series of fairly recent dinners in a short visit to Singapore
The best red,of that week, was this 95 Chateau Montelena which was in full maturity ,yet with some years to go.
Lovely bouquet of black fruit admixed with some cedar nose, full bodied palate with sufficient lively black currants belied by secondary notes with no discernable tannins,as good as it gets

The refreshing Semillion was a bright start to a cosy dinner, with lean citrus notes on both bouquet and mouth, aptly dry finish
The 'whites' dominated the next dinner with the impressive vinous fresh 04 Cristal (fine mousse and elegant nose, full bodied with ample fruits) leading the way followed by the light ,perfumed Mas de Daumas Gassac from Languedoc Rousillon,as only the viognier grape can deliver. However, the '11 Ramonet Morgeot was on par ,if not edging the Cristal with it's lovely fruit and mineral balance on the tastebuds. The reds, were not far behind with my favourite 06 Calera presenting with mixture of dark fruit and tertiary notes of spice..but I wouldn't keep it in the cellar for too long. The 07 Almaviva was quite a full bodied combination of luscious fruit and unobtrusive soft grained tannins,a smooth mouthful to savour for years to come with improvement.

The last dinner had an 07 Corton Charlemagne from Morey which was aromatic ,had citrus like fruits with nuttiness on the palate, belied by backbone of minerality which made it
ever so delicious!
All in all,the whites ruled the dinners, apart from the Chateau Montelena.
A very enjoyable short sojourn
