THAT is an uber cool watch. Railroad watches are something I like a lot made by some great brands such as Longines, Universal Genève, Omega, Girard Perregaux and...Zenith.

Here, the crown is a later one.

And the Cal 120T.

Best,

Nicolas

About the Zenith Extra RR 120 T Ref. 120 T

The Zenith Extra RR 120 T represents a specialized chapter in the Swiss manufacturer's extensive history of precision timekeeping for professional applications. Created specifically for the Canadian railroad system, this timepiece emerged from Zenith's long-standing tradition of producing railroad-certified chronometers that met the exacting standards required for safe railway operations. The 'RR' designation clearly identifies its railroad heritage, while the Extra line positioned these watches as Zenith's premium offering for industrial timekeeping applications.

The watch displays classic railroad chronometer design principles with its highly legible white dial, bold Arabic numerals, and prominent 24-hour military time markers in red. The stark black-and-white contrast ensures optimal readability under varying lighting conditions, while the clean layout eliminates any visual confusion critical in railroad operations. The substantial case construction and traditional leather strap reflect the utilitarian priorities of professional timekeeping equipment, built to withstand the demanding environment of railway service.

As a purpose-built railroad timepiece, the Extra RR 120 T occupies a specialized niche within vintage Zenith collecting. These professional instruments represent actual working history rather than luxury positioning, making them particularly appealing to collectors focused on horological functionality over pure aesthetics. The Canadian railroad connection adds geographical specificity that enhances collectible appeal, though market values remain moderate compared to Zenith's more celebrated chronograph offerings from the same era.

Gorgeous dial

Some say after cal. 135 this is Zenith's best or at least most desired caliber?

I love railroad watches. I remember being crazy about an Accutron in a window in Diamond Heights, near San Francisco in the late seventies. It was $100 or so, too much for my very poor student means.

Beautiful watch.
