Emil Wojcik's latest acquisition, a Jaquet Droz Grande Heure Minute, exemplifies the pursuit of a specific aesthetic within a beloved brand. His detailed account of finding a timepiece that balances vintage appeal with modern sensibilities offers valuable insights for collectors navigating similar criteria. This article explores why this particular reference resonates so deeply with Emil and how it stands out within the Jaquet Droz catalog.

Even though I only own one other Jaquet Droz, the brand immediately became my favorite after picking up my first one four or five years ago after an exhaustive search for a discounted model I loved. It was only a matter of time before I’d settle on the next model. It’s a Grande Heure Minute, 43 mm, blued hands, silver dial although in some light it appears white, part of it’s appeal for me.

I’ve wanted a three hand watch for some time, no date. My criteria was, must be from JD, with a somewhat vintage, classic, simple look, but with a modern twist. I don’t think I could have found a more perfect watch.

An interesting coincidence (or in terms I prefer, an unlikely statistical anomaly, I don’t believe in coincidence), the original papers show it was sold to the original owner on January 10, 2023 and it was delivered to me yesterday, January 10, 2024, exactly one year from its original purchase date.

Thanks! Yes, I agree, although it’s very restrained for the brand, especially when considering their famous automata pieces, it still has that JD look.

I considered the well known and popular Grande Seconde models but it seemed to me to be too predictable. And I’d love to have a Skelet-One like yours, but that’s not happening any time soon.

Yours is really great!

A three hander that is soooo JD and still, different. Now you can enjoy the newcomer and for a Grande Seconde of some sort, there is time and offerings enough, even in the more distant future.
