mj23's striking image of the Romain Gauthier Logical One's chain and ruby rollers sparked a discussion among collectors about the fusee and chain complication. This often-misunderstood mechanism, while visually captivating, represents a pinnacle of horological engineering. mj23's post highlights the intricate details that make independent watchmaking so compelling.

...but I have always wanted a watch with a fusee and chain. Such a delicate solution...so many tiny pieces. It seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist (I know, there is a problem to solve). But making the rollers out of rubies is over the top. Take that, Lange!
Beautiful fusee-based pocket watches are readily available for very reasonable prices. I used to own a fusee movement; absence of the case was helpful in viewing the fusee.
