Aperna, a respected member of the WatchProSite community, shares a common dilemma faced by many collectors: what to do when a beloved timepiece, in this case, a Laurent Ferrier, repeatedly underperforms. His candid post, detailing persistent issues with his watch, resonates deeply, prompting a crucial decision for its replacement. This article delves into the community's diverse opinions as Aperna seeks input on two compelling alternatives: a Vacheron Constantin Overseas and a Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda.

As most of you know, I’ve had some issues with my Laurent Ferrier. It finally came back for the second time after having some significant issues. At this point, I have lost all faith in this particular piece. Mechanical watches can have issues and I appreciate that. I’m not casting dispersions on the brand itself but I’m done with this particular watch.

I have since narrow down it’s replacement with the following two references. Both of which I can obtain within 24 hours brand new in the box one it retail, and one with a little bit of a discount.

Here they are.

The overseas has the newest movement, which apparently is thinner and diameter, and a slightly more tapered steel wristband. The Tonda comes with a matching gold folding clasp

So I’m taking count, and who prefers which one.

Thanks in advance my friends. Help me decide I must say I’m almost ready to get both, but I would like to be a little bit more reasonable certainly the VC is much harder to get,

All the best, Tony

The Vacheron is a collection killer. Three straps, 150M water resistance, anti-magnetic, good size, Geneva seal, 8 year warranty or something and Trinity? It’s literally a no brainer.

And it is a killer watch, and certainly harder to obtain than the Parmigiani. But don't dismiss the PF. It is a very serious piece, and more closely relates to the LF you are replacing, IMO. Of course, you could circle back to it later. But if you are only buying one, and the point is to replace the Ferrier, then I would get the Parmigiani.

1- wearability in general I find easier with white metal (that may be different for you my friend) and the fact you get both a metal bracelet look and a strap look; 2- legibility. The Ronda worries me in terms of real life legibility with the hand design having holes in them.

Forgive my stance among the experts. But, is it only me that find this comparison between oranges and apples. A steel case versus precious metal, a date versus dual time & date complications, a band vs bracelet, different case thickness,.. I believe you will not have any issues with either brands. But, Sir, you need to try them and find which one suits your lifestyle or fills a void in your collection. Wear it in good health🍻.

So I'm biased. I do like the black dial DT better for contrast with the red accents. As for PF, I actually have a curve ball .. I like this for the color combo and no date... if too much purple could see if they have grey strap 🤷‍♂️
