Dr No's thought-provoking question, "Every watch guy needs . . . x," challenges the WatchProSite community to define the essential timepieces or movements for any serious collector. His initial list, led by the Omega Speedmaster, sparked a lively debate, inviting members to share their own perspectives on what constitutes a foundational watch collection. This discussion explores the diverse philosophies behind building a meaningful horological ensemble.

And I like diverse collections: - a dive or sports watch (in my case: a Rolex OP39) - a manual-wound chronograph (in my case: something to acquire again, most likely an iteration of a Speedmaster indeed) - a dress watch (in my case: a Calatrava) This should cover all bases for a nice collection and in concept is open to all budgets
Every guy needs a: 1) Good chronograph - Omega Speedmaster Metas!! 2) A highly water resistant piece - Seamaster, FF, Pelagos etc 3) A thin dress watch - Something less than 11mm preferably 4) A baller piece - perhaps a gold Aquaterra or Yachtmaster 5) A sentimental piece - perhaps a gift from someone; or somethint to mark a moment in time Perhaps some kindness and humility too, not exclusive to this pandemic era, but as a virtue to keep, for every mountain has a higher mountain…
A favorite brand. Not following others. The L factor. L o n g i n e s If there is a second love? O m e g a So, yes a Speedy certainly could be a must. Me, Seamasters are collectable. Wear great on my wrist.
1) Passion; 2) a Plan; 3) Perseverance; 4) Patience; 5) a Patek (Philippe).
But true 🤷🏻♂️
I will try: 1. An everyday watch 2. A dress watch 3. A sports watch 4. A quirky watch The first three cover all bases of daily life, and the fourth is really more of a conversation piece, one that has a particular detail or complication or history that makes it special. In my case, at this particular time, it would look something like this: 1. Omega Speedmaster 3861 2. A.Lange&Soehne 1815 Auf / Ab 3. Rolex Explorer II 16570 4. Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955
