Hmmmcamu introduces the Wakmann Triple Date Chronographe Ref. 71.1309.70, highlighting its vintage charm and the intricate Valjoux Caliber 72C/723 movement. This post offers a detailed look at a lesser-known but historically significant timepiece, providing valuable context on Wakmann's unique position in watchmaking history due to US import duties.
Valjoux does not recommend operating the day, month, or date adjusters between the hours of 20:00 and 2:00. This is to protect the calendar mechanism, which advances at midnight. The month does not automatically “roll over” with the date. It must be manually set using the inset pusher.
When the United States had increased duties on imported Swiss watches, there was a company in New York called Wakmann Watch Company, an Importer and Manufacturer of high quality timepieces ... Wakmann would receive a batch of nearly complete watches from Switzerland, which would be assembled in the US and then sold under the Wakmann brand. The brand is / was closely associated with but not limited to the brand BREITLING.

it really ticks all the boxes for me! Put another name on the dial and it would sell for at least 10 times the money, so we all can be grateful that there are still brands and models beyond the hype that bring you unfathomable bang per buck.
Breitling eventually bought Wakmann Watch Company
I have never seen this watch before. Thank you for sharing.
