In this captivating photo essay, cazalea transports us to a vibrant VW Swap Meet, offering a visual feast of air-cooled Volkswagens. His meticulous documentation of Karmann Ghias, Vans, Pickups, and other unique models provides an invaluable look into the diverse historical color palettes and enduring appeal of these iconic vehicles. This initial installment sets the stage for a deeper dive into the world of vintage VWs, highlighting the unique character found in each model.

On our way to the store we drove past the Swap Meet parking lot - and saw hundreds of cars, all VWs!
I should have learned my lesson a year or two ago when we missed going in (because I had no cash in hand).
We weren’t in a hurry today, my wife was agreeable, and admission was only $2.
We spent some time walked 3000 steps on the uneven asphalt and exhausted the camera battery...

Let me see if I can sort the photos a bit:

KARMANN GHIA

VANS & PICKUPS

EVERYTHING ELSE (except standard Beetles)

The owner of this Thing wanted a Father-Son project so he gave a couple of spare fenders to his son and said β€œPut them together.”
Kid said, β€œI can’t weld.”
Dad said β€œTry. teach yourself how to weld, Dude.”

He said his son is now a good welder, and even better at grinding off bad welds … The Thing and the Scooter were both for sale.

PART 2 Has all the Beetles

Most of the attendees had the same patina as the cars did, said my wife, a keen observer of humanity.
