Gerardo's excitement over his new Vacheron Constantin Triple Calendar 1942, his first VC and manual-wind watch, offers a fresh perspective on this modern reinterpretation of a classic. His detailed observations on its design, wearability, and movement finishing provide valuable insights for prospective owners, alongside a common query about manual winding.
I first saw this watch on hodinkee and I loved it, this is my first Vacheron of my collection, and my first manual watch. I did my research and this forum was of great help. I really love the classic vintage look of the case, the lugs are really elegant, the triple gadroon profile is beautiful. Although in pictures I could only perceived a great looking opaline matte center dial is only in the metal when you can really see the amazing sunbrushed center dial in a contrasting white in the date track. I have read a few comments about the size, how come VC made it 40mm when most people (in this market) is willing to go as big as 39mm, specially taking in account the piece this watch is inspired on was just 35mm, Well I have to say that the watch wears great, it does not feels o looks 40mm at all due to the thickness, the round shape and of course the amazing lugs.
I love that the watch is made of steel. The combination of colors looks great. The finishing in the movement is just really nice, of course worthy of the Geneva Seal.
The one thing I would like to know more about this piece, there is no info in the watch manual, warranty and other papers, nether online. Is the proper amount of hand wound, the feeling when to stop hand wounding the watch is unclear, sometimes it feels it is enough for the 65 hrs. but actually it just last for a couple
This time piece was perfectly executed, a modern reinterpretation still elegant, retro, being truthful to its DNA.
Such a complete watch, complication, design, pedigree, movement, finishing at an accessible price. I am really excited this was my first VC

It really has a very chic classic style. Looks like a perfect fit on your wrist. I love the presentation box as seem a bit of a departure for the usual box. Enjoy it in great health. Bill
