Renerod returns to the WatchProSite community, sharing a deeply personal reflection on his journey with watch collecting, particularly his initial obsession with vintage Rolex sports watches. He candidly discusses how this pursuit overshadowed his enjoyment of other timepieces and how reconnecting with friends helped him rediscover his passion. Renerod's post is a testament to the community's supportive nature and the joy of sharing one's horological journey.
Hello dear friends. First, let me elaborate a little.
Like most of the people writing here, I just LOVE rolex sport watches. I've got the virus, the bug, the itch. I dream about having a nice sub/seadweller with a very round superdome to love and caress. I stopped posting comments here, because I started to feel obsessed about how to get a vintage rolex. My grief for a rolex started to bother me, so I tryed to detox by just stopping writing here.
Between getting married, setting a home, saving for my wife's car and now waiting a baby, I saw my dream drift away and away...
So obsessed was I, that I forgot all the nice watches I had, and stopped enjoying them!!!
But I never really stopped reading all your great posts here, and absorb all the knowledge I could, along with the gorgeous images and filling my hard drive with them
))
I always kept in contact with a very good friend and member of this forum: AlexSunrise. The endless late night conversations with him helped me to rediscovered the joy of having really nice watches.
I strarted to think: It's only a matter of time, goals, saving and focusing on the real important things in life and dreams. And never letting go your dreams.
So after this little dissertation, let me share with you the "only" rolex I have (not really a rolex, but a sibling).
Oh! and let me tell you that one outcome of my rolex "annoyance", is that I started to make my own straps. Please, don't be so hard on them
It feels so good to write again here, to share with this wonderful community!
Greetings to all of you friends. So let's start!

By the way, if someone wants to trade this little beauty and a lifetime of handmade straps for a 1665 white, 5513 gilt or 7928 chapter ring, I'll think about it
Thanks for reading!
René
The Rolex Submariner reference 5513 is a notable example within the Submariner line, distinguished by its two-line dial and lack of a date complication. Produced for an extended period, it represents a core offering for collectors seeking a straightforward and robust tool watch. Its design emphasizes legibility and functionality, aligning with the original purpose of the Submariner series. This reference is recognized for its consistent aesthetic throughout its production run, with subtle variations in dial text and bezel inserts.
The watch features a 40mm stainless steel Oyster case, offering durability and water resistance suitable for its intended use. Powering the reference 5513 is the automatic Caliber 1520 movement, known for its reliability. The crystal is acrylic, contributing to the vintage character of the watch. The unidirectional rotating bezel, typically with an aluminum insert, allows for elapsed time measurement.
For collectors, the reference 5513 is a significant model due to its long production history and the various dial iterations, such as gilt and matte dials, which present distinct collecting opportunities. Its appeal lies in its foundational design and its position as a non-date Submariner, making it a desirable piece for those who appreciate the model's original form. The watch is often paired with an Oyster bracelet, completing its functional aesthetic.
Yes, Alex is a dangerous guy, bur we love him. Felicidades on your new catch! All the best, René. Nicolas
You are one of the main responsible of having me infected with the virus. And I'm glad, since you have an impecable taste for watches. But this is not new for me, in fact it is one of the first vintages I got. Nevertheless thank you very much for your kind re-welcome here. Some little pieces are so charming. I'm sure you have several of them, don't you? Wanna share some? Wanna trade? ;) Best my friend. René

Never forget that you are one of the "culprit" in causing this obsession, with all your sea dwellers and that gorgeous 5512 CR PCG ;) And yeah! Alex has always been a very good friend, and as you friends, he has so much to share, and that's onw of thr things that I like of this forum. I'm gonna make my best my friend. Best regards. René
Great to read you again, my friend! Your charming Tudor is a watch I have been enjoying pictures of for quite a while now, and which fortunately I will be able to see in the flesh soon. Btw, your office view is really nice!! And, as for your vintage Sub, well, your patience will be well rewarded soon enough. Abrazo, Alejandro
I want to recognize that your friendship and advice are in part responsible for keeping my horological passion alive. And yes, I have the feeling that sooner or latter...there's a rolex in my life (or wrist) ;) Un fuerte abrazo amigo René
