G99 shares his long-awaited acquisition of a Peter Speake-Marin Piccadilly, a watch he has desired since meeting the independent watchmaker years prior. This post celebrates the unique blend of classic English heritage and modern independent watchmaking, highlighting the personal connection collectors often form with independent brands and their creators.
I have wanted to own a watch made by this company ever since I first met the owner several years ago. Peter Speake-Marin comes across as just your normal average guy, but with an inner passion that has driven him to become the huge success he is now.
I have always loved the classic style of the Piccadilly, the case is classic as is the crown, the white enamel dial(yep, mine is enamel) is just beautiful with roman numerals. the blued steel hands add the icing on the cake. what you see is a swiss watch which screams 'English heritage' at you.
the movement is a very heavily modified ETA 2924, a workhorse that Peter values highly. the rotor that looks like a topping off tool is a lovely addition and is now the brands motif.
my watch dates from 2008 and is number 17. this I believe is one of the first 46 made, all with enamel dials. this run of watches are over engineered and finished to a very high level that some would say is higher than the later more mass produced models. I've not seen a more modern one so I cant comment.
anyway, its now in my collection and is a keeper.
here's a few quick pics taken with my LX3

I know I've been away for a long time, but I've been waiting for something special to come along and this is the first of a few. best G
I just hope it arrives soon as I paid for it at beginning of august and starting to get a bit annoyed with the dealer who quoted 25 days delivery time.
