In a world often dominated by flashy marketing and celebrity endorsements, jlux (Gerard) reminds us that true horological value can be found in brands committed to 'no-nonsense watchmaking.' His latest acquisitions, the Sinn 104 Klassik 12 and the Sinn 144 chronograph, serve as a compelling case study for collectors seeking robust, well-engineered timepieces without the premium associated with luxury branding. Gerard's detailed presentation and insightful commentary highlight why Sinn continues to resonate with enthusiasts who prioritize substance over spectacle.

I recently added two new Sinn watches to the collection.

The Sinn 104 Klassik 12.

A new release from Sinn which is basically a more refined version of their classical 104 models.
The major changes certainly being the small seconds, the ceramic bezel and ....the no-date !!

Wearing well with the rather slim 41 mm case !

A completely different "animal" is the 144 chronograph : here we are in real tool watch territory !!

Almost unchanged in the Sinn catalogue since more than 50 years this watch clearly has some 70ies design elements.

A very positive surprise was the comfort of the bracelet which helps to balance this 41mm watch well on the wrist.

Sinn is one of these brands that I really like. No VIP brand ambassadors, no shouting YouTube influencers , no glamour partys : just serious no-nonsense watch making !!
You definitely can pay significantly more with many other brands ....for getting significantly less !

Thanks for looking,
Gerard

About the Sinn Ref. Sinn104

The Sinn 104 Klassik 12 is a variant within the 104 series, distinguished by its specific dial configuration and bezel markings. The 104 series is known for its instrument watch aesthetic, offering a blend of legibility and robust construction. This particular model maintains the core design principles of the 104 line, focusing on functional elements and clear timekeeping. It represents a specific aesthetic choice within the broader Sinn catalog, appealing to collectors who appreciate subtle variations in established designs.

The watch features a stainless steel case, typically housing an automatic movement. The crystal is generally sapphire, contributing to scratch resistance. Water resistance is a standard feature for the 104 series, providing practical durability. The case dimensions are consistent with other models in the 104 range, offering a balanced presence on the wrist. The movement provides a reliable power reserve, suitable for daily wear.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a well-engineered tool watch with a distinct visual identity. Its position within the 104 series highlights Sinn's approach to offering nuanced choices within a successful model family. The Klassik 12 variant provides an alternative to other 104 models, allowing collectors to select based on specific dial and bezel preferences while retaining the fundamental characteristics of the series.

Wow. What beauties!

Huge fan of the brand in terms utility and aesthetics, but their sourced sellita movements left me underwhelmed during my brief ownership of a U50S. Hope you have a better experience and continue to enjoy yours in good health

I have nothing but good experiences with their movements.

Same as with my U50 these two watches have very well regulated movements

I had to return it after it couldn’t keep good time inspite of being sent back to the manufacture twice

I really like my U50.

Great proportions and a design that positively sets it apart from most other divers.
