Jml_watches shares a two-year long-term review of his Seiko Urushi, detailing his experience of wearing the same watch daily. He reflects on the habits formed, the watch's durability, and the enduring appeal of its distinctive dial. This post offers valuable insights into the ownership experience of a Seiko Urushi from a dedicated collector's perspective.

Hi All

I know other Purists are sticking to a watch for as long as they can - those that remain are now over two months with the same watch.  I guess they'll soon start to feel like I do.  I've been wearing my Urushi Seiko every day since it arrived two years ago.  I'm now at the start of the third year!  I will admit that its been stuck to my right wrist constantly over that time - which has meant my left wrist has been free for other stuff.

If I hadn't been in the habit of wearing two watches would it have lasted so long - who knows.  The good thing is,  that it still is and I'm still not sure that I need or want to change it.  It is now a habit to strap the Urushi on every morning.  I then put my alternative choice on or change my mind and put that on my left wrist.

So what can I say about not changing a watch for that long and also what can I say about the Urushi.

Well - after a while its habit forming and you don't even think about what watch to put on - the downside is that there are a number of watches that haven't had as much wrist time as they might.  I've also got used to its heft, so when its not on my wrist I probably notice it more than when it isn't. Its also now got the battle scars of daily use to show & they add to its character and value to me - they've been hard earnt.

As for the watch itself - I've looked back at what I said originally and also what I said after a year, some things don't change.  It still has a certain heft to it - though I'm getting used to it,  its not a small watch by my or indeed any standards as its quite thick too.  It still runs slow - but is consistently so, and I've had no urge to get it adjusted.  The strap will need changing - but its survived better than I thought it would.  The deployant works well for me - it can be a bit intrusive on occasion, but for the most part its fine.  I'm sure there are better deploy ants out there but considering price its more than acceptable - this isn't meant to be damning with faint praise either.  I've tried some other watches with deploy ants which I just couldn't get my head around - the Seiko's is nice and simple - just what this owner needs!

The dial is still its standout feature and still looks wonderful, I still catch myself looking at it on occasion - just to look at the dial and not to check the dial.  There's a real depth and quality to it & I think as I've said before this watch is mainly about the dial - but it is rather wonderful.

So some shots on its travels over last couple of years

Commuting

I still think this is my best shot of the dial - even after two years.  Must try harder.

Going to work with a friend

As part of a stack.

Another commuting shot

The final thing I'd say - it was probably the quickest decision on choosing a watch, but also one of my better ones.  smile

Cheers

I have yet to see one in the flesh, but can imagine how deep the dial will look. The gold hands just work very well with it. Thanks for sharing, Imran

Urushi series, Enamel (Ho-Ro in Japanese) series.... They are both high quality bang for the buck watches - IMHO. I am enjoying my Urushi Presage chrono (although a bit chunky). Thanks for sharing your journey and photos with us. Have fun! Ken

And so is - of course - the watch. But sticking to one for so long is still a sign of great perseverance May be time to get an Urushi myself

Particularly the dial Have wanted to wear it - been a complete pleasure. I know at some point it will have a few days rest. As I said one of my better decisions - I'd definitely encourage getting one. Cheers JML

So the 10 year service might nit be far off. Kinda ties into the discussion on HOME about getting your watch serviced. There's a great review on here of a 726s watch - where they used to dismantle them & conclusion is pretty much that. Urushi while not cheap - or even close to a Seiko 5. They are fantastic value & not hugely expensive - probably cheaper than a service on some. As I've said in passed its all about the dial - & it is glorious I certainly encourage you to consider one when the fund
