Alex introduces his new Romain Jerome Spacecraft, a watch he describes as a 'creative and quirky' piece with significant horological substance. He details the design origins and mechanical aspects, offering a personal perspective on why RJ is becoming one of his favorite brands for unique, well-made timepieces.

what another Romain Jerome post ?

Yes because RJ is starting to slowly become one of my favorite brands if I want to get a creative and quirky watch, extremely well made, with horological substance without selling a kidney (which in my case I'm not sure is worth much smile )

I had seen the Spacecraft prototype about two years ago at Basel fair and as soon as I saw the finalised version this year I jumped for it.

The Spacecraft is the child of Manu Emch (RJ CEO), Eric Giroud for the design and Jean-Marc Wiederecht for the mechanical aspects.

In terms of design the watch reminds me of a Lamborghini Aventador, there is not a single curve, just a succession of straight lines and angles: the case is filled with tension! Speaking to Emch about this tortured design he gave a much less sexy explanation. He was having pizza with Giroud talking about the project and its the pizza slices that inspirred them for the shapes (the original design was quarter circles!!)

The Spacecraft has a titanium case with blacked sections (not sure if it is galvanic or PVD), the front features alinear jump hour with cut out sections backlighted via red pannel to indicate the hours, minues are read via a rotating disc on the top part of the case.

But pictures are woth 1000 words so I hope you enjoy (please forgive the dust spec etc...)

I am sure that this time machine....heu, I mean this time piece....has more than the necessary horological values one Alex would expect. For some reason however :) it does look a little bit like my bedside alarm clock. No mockery Alex, it's just that I am not yet prepared to appreciate such creation. From Laurent Ferrier and Vacheron!? You are definitely someone very special, I really do look forward to the day we can meet, sincerely. Out of curiosity.....well of course:) otherwise why asking? (

I'm dying to one day see one in the metal as it must be awesome when viewed in 3 D. Tell us more about how it feels on the wrist and the legibility pls. :) Best fernando

The watch is quite comfortable as it is both light due to titanium case and size. It takes about 10mins in getting used to reading the time as everything is both clear and numerals large (good for my old eyes :-) )

meet and have the same heated discussions face to face as we have had via mail :-) The Spacecraft has an automatic ETA base movement to which the jump hour mechanism has been added
