In a perennial debate among collectors, 'The Swiss guy' ignites a compelling discussion: the Rolex GMT-Master II 'Pepsi' versus the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time. This article synthesizes community insights, exploring the nuanced considerations that drive such a significant horological decision, from brand philosophy to daily wearability and long-term value.

I just see Rolex watches everywhere, and every eighteen year old's first question now is whether it's even real. I don't care that much about what other people think, but I do like being a little out of the mainstream, and Vacheron is simply rarer than a Rolex, and that appeals to me.
I was queuing at the airport the other day and there were three gentlemen with a sub on. part of me was glad that I wasn't wearing mine that trip π
the Batman (not Pepsi) doesn't get worn much. Batman is a really good and versatile watch but I love knowing that often only I know what the VC is. Besides that, I just love the VC design and aesthetics. Rolex's extension system is excellent. VC's is friction-based and slides out to full extension mode unintentionally when doing even basic day to day tasks; it's not a good system and has been that way for all my Overseas (can you tell I love Overseas?!). I love the bracelet otherwise and it fits
While the GMT Master is my favourite Rolex they makes 1.2M watches a year and Vacheron makes a tiny fraction of that. Rolex has morphed into the Beanie Baby of watches IMO. And, spec for spec the Overseas is simply a better watch and thatβs without the finishing, Geneva Seal and interchangeable straps/bracelets.
