Watch_kha_wen shares a frustrating experience at a Rolex boutique in New Bond Street while inquiring about the 'Root Beer' GMT-Master II, highlighting a perceived attitude problem from staff. This post sparks a broader discussion among collectors about Rolex waiting lists, customer service, and the challenges of acquiring popular models.

The Rolex GMT-Master II reference 126711CHNR, introduced in 2018, represents a significant addition to the contemporary GMT-Master II collection. This reference is notable for its "Root Beer" aesthetic, combining Oystersteel and Everose gold, a combination that distinguishes it from full steel or full gold variants. It offers a modern interpretation of a classic color scheme, appealing to collectors who appreciate a blend of robust utility and luxurious materials within the GMT-Master II lineage.
This model features a 40 mm Oyster case crafted from a combination of Oystersteel and Everose gold, ensuring durability and a distinctive visual appeal. It is equipped with the Caliber 3285, an automatic movement developed by Rolex, which provides a substantial power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, enhancing its resistance to scratches, and is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet), making it suitable for various activities.
The 126711CHNR appeals to collectors seeking a GMT-Master II that offers both functionality and a unique material and color palette. Its Everose gold and Oystersteel construction, paired with the brown and black Cerachrom bezel, provides a warm and sophisticated appearance. This reference stands as a modern successor to earlier bi-color GMT models, maintaining the dual-time zone complication while incorporating contemporary materials and movement technology.
itβs completely unacceptable for staff in any business to make customers feel that way. I am sure that the management at Rolex would not condone this behaviour.
ADs and boutiques are a mixed bag - you are either treated like a king or like an ass. Sometimes it's unintentional (condescending tone is something many people can't control) and sometimes it's intentional (a salesperson in a F. P. Journe boutique kept bashing on a Lange I was wearing while showing me a Centigraphe). Regarding the root beer Rolex, here in South America they're relatively easy to find; I know of a store that has one on sale. Maybe try your luck while going on a trip? Best of luc
The 116500 Daytona and the Blue Skydweller both took a year after their respective BaselWorld release for the delivery. This Root Beer was "only" few months after BaselWorld and I thought since it was 2 tone and more expensive, the wait wasn't that long...of course the Pepsi is still waiting. So in relative terms, My AD really is treating me very well. Hope you find yours soon in another location, but really the key is to stick to same AD.
I asked for root beer and Pepsi They laughed and said Pepsi is 3.5yrs and root beer is 1.5. Almost showed me the door after that... Kev
Very disappointing. Kev
There is a great local story in my town a farmer tried to ask for the price for a Mercedes SL at the local Mercedes dealer but they just ignored him. Ended buying two from the dealer in the neighbor town. Best tip is get a AD that isnβt arrogant π or buy a brand that know customer care
