Years ago I owned the Rolex Explorer 214270, 39mm. I absolutely loved it but decided to sell it to purchase the smaller 14270, 36mm. Over these years I have watched the market rise on these models and never pulled the trigger as I had other "bigger" pieces come into my collection. I'm happy to say that I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a 14270 "Swiss" only. To me, the Rolex Explorer, no matter what the reference is such a versatile, timeless piece.

Cheers

About the Rolex Rolex 14270 Tritium Ref. 14270

The Rolex Explorer reference 14270 represents a significant evolution of the brand's robust tool watch, succeeding the five-digit references and introducing modern manufacturing techniques while retaining the core aesthetic. This reference is distinguished by its updated movement and solid end-links, providing enhanced durability and a more contemporary feel compared to its predecessors. It maintains the classic 3-6-9 Arabic numeral dial layout, a hallmark of the Explorer line, ensuring legibility and a clear connection to its heritage of exploration.

This reference features a 36 mm stainless steel Oyster case, known for its strength and water resistance. It is powered by the automatic Caliber 3000, a reliable movement with a power reserve of 42 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal for scratch resistance and has a water resistance rating of 100 meters. The fixed smooth stainless steel bezel contributes to its understated and functional design.

The 14270 appeals to collectors seeking a modern vintage Rolex sports watch that bridges the gap between earlier iterations and contemporary models. Its production run from 1989 to 2001 saw minor variations, including the 'blackout' dial in early examples where the 3-6-9 numerals were not luminous, making certain configurations particularly sought after. It remains a foundational piece within the Explorer collection, valued for its straightforward design and robust construction.

Agreed.

Not sure why, but it's a classic in my eyes.

They’re all beauties

... but the 14270, 114270, and their predecessors have such beautiful and elegant proportions.

Congratulations.

Much agreed. I find the 14270/114270 size to be better proportioned than the 214270. Perfect fit on my 6.75 inch wrist. Enjoy this classic!

36mm is a size that the majority can easily wear.

I don't think many collectors agree but it really does suit most people and smaller pieces have such a classic look to them. Do you have both the 14270 and 114270?

Yes, I do.

I wanted both reference models... but not so common ones. So I bought the 14270 SWISS ONLY dial and the 114270 ENGRAVED REHAUT dial. Love them both.... I have the 14270 on a black leather strap to give it a different feel.
