Cozmopak's inquiry into the Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller, particularly the D-blue dial, sparks a robust discussion among collectors. This article synthesizes community insights on its technical prowess, wearability, and evolving collectibility. Readers will gain a deeper understanding of why this modern Rolex continues to captivate enthusiasts.

The Sea-Dweller reference 116600 marked the return of the 40mm case size for the model, a dimension that had been absent from the Sea-Dweller lineup for some time. This reference reintroduced several classic Sea-Dweller design elements, distinguishing it from its larger contemporary, the Sea-Dweller 4000. It was produced for a relatively short period, making it a notable transitional model within the brand's professional tool watch offerings.
This reference features a stainless steel case measuring 40mm in diameter and 15.3mm in thickness. It is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel made of black ceramic with a 60-minute graduation. The watch is powered by the automatic caliber 3135, offering a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. A sapphire crystal protects the black dial, which includes a date complication without the cyclops lens, a characteristic feature of the Sea-Dweller line.
Appealing to collectors who appreciate traditional proportions and the technical capabilities of a professional dive watch, the 116600 is recognized for its blend of heritage design and modern materials. Its limited production run contributes to its appeal among enthusiasts seeking a Sea-Dweller with a more classic case size and specific aesthetic details, such as the matte-like black dial and the absence of the cyclops over the date.
a bit too thick for my taste, and I prefer a simple matte dial on divers. Not sure how collectable they are given that this dial variation has been in continuous production since 2014 ...
Really enjoyed it, was just time to move on to something a bit less bulky. And dial a little to busy for my changing tastes. Would not look to as a collectible, as it has been updated since initially released. Also, while and increase in value, has not followed other similar Rolex models in the current environment. But likely because not everyone can wear it due to size. Imagine if it was same size as submariner … doubt you would find one.
If you can overcome the thickness or wordiness on the dial, it’s a good watch to have in the collection - graduated blue to black dial + specifically honouring an individual’s achievement; both I believe, are first for Rolex. Version 2 - with the crown at 6 - is more balanced.
...not sure why this is included along with too much text already...
wait ... there might be something deeply light in a little while ...
I know you like vintage, why not go for the OG sea dweller?
