KIH offers an exclusive first look at the Richard Mille RM 53-01 from SIHH 2018, highlighting its groundbreaking technical innovations. This post provides an invaluable early perspective on a watch designed for extreme durability and performance. KIH's detailed photos and insights capture the essence of this high-performance timepiece.
This year, the booth is a bit simpler (without F1 car hang from the ceiling...)

Yup, Mr. M is here, too.
1. Front glass - took four years to develop. Two thin sapphire crystal with the exactly same curve sandwich PVB sheet. Even if struck with the mullet with striking force, the top sapphire may crack, but the second crystal won't be broken, thus no broken glass would enter the movement chamber.
2. 3D wire suspension. Like the suspension bridge, the movement is suspended inside the watch. This wire suspension has evolved as well from 27-01 -> 56-02 -> 53-01, and now 3D suspension with just 0.27mm steel wire. This makes the movement inside endure 5000G!

On day 2, at press conference, Pablo Mac Donough speaks about the sport, his history of injury (especially the one he got when he was 10 - his forehead hit by other guy's full swing mullet and his forehead was crashed. Doctors successfully took out all the bone fragment, but for several month the part had no bone, but only the skin. Later titanium plate was inserted....) Other broken bones and such are countless, he says.

He is very happy with the watch and to be treated as if he were family of Mr. Richard Mille. The color was decided by Mr. Mille - Pablo's from Argentina and this blue is the color of his country.

Great watch. Great polo player. And great price tag..... only 30 fortunate people can buy this one.....

This year, Richard Mille will focus more on maintaining the value of the brand - e.g. make sure the secondary price is right. More charity. More fun activity with the owners.....
