On April 26th, 2012, Richard Mille hosted an intimate dinner in New York City to honor Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman, and welcome her as a Friend of the Brand.

Throughout her career, Natalie has passionately embraced roles that push her boundaries as an artist. Her commitment to taking on meaningful challenges -whether on screen, as a producer, or in support of philanthropic causes- makes Natalie an ideal match for the tenets of Richard Mille.

For the occasion, Natalie chose to wear a conflict free diamond-set version of Richard Mille's original watch for women: the RM 007 Automatic. With both natural rubber and synthetic satin strap options according to Natalie's wishes, the RM 007 fits easily into Natalie's lifestyle, whether she is at home with her family, traveling, or attending a glamorous event.

Richard and Natalie also announced their intention to collaborate on the development of a limited edition watch, whose proceeds will support international charity and educational partner, Free The Children.

Natalie Portman won the Best Actress Oscar®, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Independent Spirit Award, among others, for her lead role in the 2010 movie Black Swan. This year she will film two movies with the director Terrence Malick, Knight of Cups and Lawless, as well as Thor 2.

About Richard Mille

From its inception in 2001, Richard Mille has been heralded for innovations that have led the long-standing tradition of horology out of the past and into the future. Three principles guide the brand on this path of invention: the best in technical innovation, the best of artistry and architecture, and the best of the heritage and culture of fine watchmaking with hand finishing. Produced by a team of engineers in an ultramodern and ecologically advanced production workshop in Switzerland, Richard Mille's creations are the embodiment of 21st-century design, style, and high-tech functionality. Richard Mille has always been a keen supporter of charitable causes, including Valerie Wertheimer's Action Innocence organization, which fights to protect the dignity and integrity of children on the internet; Jackie Chan's Dragon's Heart Foundation, which aids children in remote areas; Only Watch, whose activities raise money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research; the Rafa Nadal Foundation, which provides opportunities for socially disadvantaged young people; and Sentebale, a charity that supports orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho, founded by His Royal Highness Prince Harry of Wales. About the Richard Mille Automatic Ladies Ref. RM007

Richard Mille RM007 Automatic Ladies

The RM007 represents Richard Mille's automatic ladies' offering within the RM 007 series. This 29mm reference was produced from 2005 to 2012, positioning it as part of the brand's women's collection during this period. The model features automatic winding functionality distinguished by its compact proportions.

The RM007 employs a 29mm titanium case fitted with a fixed bezel and sapphire crystal. The skeletonized dial reveals the AP-based automatic movement beneath, which provides 45 hours of power reserve. Water resistance extends to 50 meters, and the watch is completed with a rubber strap.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking Richard Mille's approach to ladies' automatic timekeeping from the brand's earlier production years. The titanium construction and skeletonized aesthetic align with the brand's technical presentation, while the 29mm case size addresses preferences for smaller proportions. The seven-year production window from 2005 to 2012 establishes its place within Richard Mille's developing catalog.

Btw, I don't think Natalie Portman makes a good RM brand ambassador

She's has too "clean" of an image. I think the RM image is more rebel-ish like Bubba Watson or Rafael Nadal. If RM were looking for a woman, perhaps someone along the lines of Rihanna or Katy Perry would make a better choice, assuming either of them aren't already associated with another watch brand. Natalie Portman would match better if she were a brand ambassdor for Chopard or Piaget IMO. Just my 2 cents, Anthony This message has been edited by AnthonyTsai on 2012-05-01 20:21:19

I share the same sentiments as well

They could have at least waited for an Olympic record breaking heroine to emerge later this year, I would think that fits the brand ethos better

Hmm, I don't really share your statement ...

I think that RM already has a "fashion/Jet set" image, enough, and thus, Nathalie Portman brings here a more elegant touch to the sport and trendy image of RM. I think this is what was missing. I wouldn't have liked another RM Friend as a superficial celebrity coming from the show business. Maybe a question of right balance from my own point of view. Best, Mark

I'm not too sure...

... as to where I stand on this issue. I agree that Natalie generally connotes a cleaner sort of image, which is definitely not the sort of persona that Richard Mille projects! However, I actually think that people like Rihanna or Katy Perry would cheapen the brand. Don't get me wrong, no offense to either of them, but I feel like they're a bit too "mass market" for a brand like Richard Mille, which despite being edgy and avant garde, is quite exclusive (perhaps they would be better suited for s
