A Fascinating Evening with Peter Speake-Marin: PuristSPro NYC Dinner Event on Dec 3, 2008

On the evening December 3, 2008, a group of New York based Purists broke bread with a great figure in the watch-making industry - Mr. Peter Speake-Marin. We also had a chance to see Peter's new completely in-house movement.

The event was held in a private dining room in the restaurant Teodora, located at 57th and Lexington Ave.

I've been to Teodora a few times, almost always for watch related events. It's a small Italian place where the staffs are jovial, the food is hearty, the wine is plentiful; and most importantly, a place where die-hard watch enthusiasts can discuss and share their passion in a cozy environment.

After seeing the wonderful photos of Anthony T. and others, please allow me to sincerely apologize in advance for my lack of good photographic equipment and mainly, my lack of photographic skills. The blurry photos were my best attempts to keep my hands steady, while avoiding the use of flash.

Without further ado, here are the photos:

Cocktail started at 6pm, and the guests started arriving...

It's always good to see familiar faces... The fellow Purist Mr. Douglas McFarland, on the left, helped to organize the event.

Mr. Martin Pulli, the U.S. distributor of Peter's timepieces, was the event's gracious sponsor.

On the right is the man of the hour, Mr. Speake-Marin, discussing matters of immense horological importance with Douglas...

Guests examining the watches, and enjoying each other's company ...

Miss Wong, whom we have met at the recent Chopard event, along with a friend...

Matthew, a seasoned management consultant and a former college buddy, encountering the world of Peter Speake-Marin for the first time...

Fascinated, Yang? Does it bring back the haunted memories of your Ph.D. days in Engineering School?

The dinner was then served... yum...

Sorry I forgot to take photos until the plates were all empty...=P

After the dinner, Peter introduced the new in-house movement,  answered the questions by guests, and gave us a moving speech on his personal philosophy of unwavering innovation and the tireless pursuit for perfection...

The guests were absolutely entranced by Peter's passion... It's always a fascinating experience to listen to the person who's actually making the watches...

Finally, here's the new movement. Beautifully designed and finished... The name plate is a great touch!

Thank you Peter, Martin, Douglas and PuristPro for a great and memorable evening.

Yours truly,

Jon (Z3)

Thanks for the wonderful report Jonathan!!

I want to thank Douglas for helping organize this event and Jonathan for covering the event for us. So hats off to you 2! And also a thanks to Peter and Martin for allowing the PuristS community to see the new watches and Peter's new in-house calibre. Peter's watches are a beauty to hold and see in person, and I've always found them to be extremely photogenic as well. Jon, what's the story behind the PVD model btw? A special piece made for a customer? Cheers, Anthony

Many Thanks

To you, Jonathan, for the report and the great pictures, even if you complained about the lighting. To Martin and especially to Peter, you were gracious, informed, and wonderful hosts to us in New York. We look forward to seeing you again in the Spring. Best, Douglas
