Among the Patek Philippe timepieces using a movement manufactured by Niton (Manufacture des Montres Niton S.A. which launched its resurrection piece yesterday), the two platinum watches shown below, with triple-date calendar à guichets and moon phases really stand out.

A/ Platinum Wrist Chronometer no. 3588

This watch was sold twice by Antiquorum: in 1982 by private treaty & in 2002 , when it was acquired by the Patek Philippe Museum (Inventory number P-1406 "Montres Bracelet triple date à guichets").

In the meanwhile, it was sold by Christie's as Lot 197 on November 16th 1988, during the 'Fine wristwatches and 20th century pocket watches' auction.

According to Patek Philippe, "this watch is one of approximately thirty pieces purchased from Niton, Geneva, in the late 1930s. The ebauches of these watches’ movements were numbered and later finished by Patek Philippe. While certain of the cases were used, others were not, and their movements were given new cases”.

Dim. 24 x 36 mm.

The movement, no. 860182, is a tonneau shaped 11-ligne caliber manufactured by Niton and featuring 18 jewels

The three "guichets" (windows) display, from left to right, the Day, Date & Month in very abbreviated format

The number of inward angles in such a small movement is simply mind-blowing.

B/ Platinum Wrist Chronometer no. 5049

This example features the same guichet-display of Day, Date & Month.

But the brand name sits above the Date instead of below the canon pinion.

Also, the hands are discreetly "leaf-style" rather than "baton-style".

The movement, manufactured by Niton, with No. 5049 obtained the Geneva Seal on November 19th, 1927

The platinum rectangle case was produced by FBG for Francois Baumgartner

About the Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 5135P

The Patek Philippe Gondolo represents one of the manufacture's most distinctive departures from traditional round case architecture. Named after the prestigious Brazilian retailer Gondolo & Labouriau, this rectangular dress watch collection draws inspiration from Art Deco design principles while maintaining Patek Philippe's unwavering commitment to classical proportions. The collection has evolved to encompass various complications, with calendar functions becoming a signature element of the line's contemporary iterations.

This particular example showcases the technical prowess behind Patek Philippe's calendar complications, featuring day and month displays flanking a central date window. The moon phase complication at 6 o'clock adds both visual interest and astronomical functionality to the rectangular dial architecture. The clean white enamel dial provides optimal legibility for the multiple calendar indications, while the platinum case construction ensures both durability and precious metal exclusivity. The integration of these complications within the rectangular case format presents unique engineering challenges that Patek Philippe has resolved with characteristic precision.

Within the contemporary collecting landscape, platinum Gondolo calendar watches occupy a specialized niche for enthusiasts seeking alternatives to traditional round complications. The rectangular case format appeals to collectors with Art Deco sensibilities, while the calendar functions provide daily utility beyond mere timekeeping. Production numbers remain relatively limited compared to Patek Philippe's signature round models, contributing to the collection's exclusivity and long-term collectible potential.
