Join Moderator Patrick_y as he takes us on a multi-part journey of the Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition.  This muti-part virtual tour of this incredible exhibition about the history of horology put on by Patek Philippe in New York City from July 13-23, 2017 at Cipriani 42nd Street.

The incredible Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition has attracted dozens of PuristSPro members to fly in from all parts of the world and country.  There are PuristSPro members who flew in from the exact opposite side of the world such as Hong Kong and Singapore specifically for this event.  A fantastic group of PuristSPro members carved out a time to meet together and tour the exhibition together.

A group of PuristS descend upon Patek Philippe's Grand Exhibition.

PuristSPro from all over the United States and The World have visited the Grand Exhibition. PuristS discuss their favorite Patek Philippe timepieces against the magnificent backdrop of the Grand Exhibition.

The accomplished and perpetually modest Larry Pettinelli, the North American President of Patek Philippe welcomes all to the event.

The group listens intently to the words of Larry Pettinelli and of Philip Barat, Head of Development for Patek Philippe.

The lights dim and Philip Barat, Head of Development for Patek Philippe presents another very special guest of the evening, the 5531R, in a show with a bit of technical details.

Larry Pettinelli and Philip Barat's words can be seen in the video below.

Some special artisans stay late to show PuristSPro members how it's done.

This gentleman specializes in miniature paintings. He is mostly self-taught. There are very few individuals in the world who can do what he does.

If that's not gorgeous, I don't know what is!

This gentleman who stayed late just to show PuristSPro members his contributions is actually carving tiny pieces of wood! Notice how he's holding the loupe in his left hand while cutting the wood with his right with a sharp knife. The detail is amazing. The final product is a dial with a rabbit, the photo that is to the left of the artisan. This art is referred to as wood marquetry.

The engraver lavishes as much as 40 to 60 hours onto a watch dial.

Two beauties.

The end result cannot be described in words.  Beautiful.  Uplifting.  Enchantment.

PuristSPro members not only like watches for their aesthetics but crave technical knowledge too.  Here, watchmakers from Henri Stern Watch Agency are giving PuristSPro members stories and intricate details about the watch mechanisms.  Servicing watches is always a difficult endeavor, and a little patience is well rewarded with a highly functioning timepiece.

As "Keks" posted on PuristSPro already, some PuristS weren't ready to go back home or to their hotel yet.  So we found a restaurant and camped out; talking about watches into the late hours of the night.

Here's a link to Keks' mini report of the event.

A special thanks to all the attendees of the event.  I wished I had more time to spend with each and every one of you!  And many special thanks to the generous team at Patek Philippe who stayed late to accommodate the group for the incredible evening.  It was an amazing evening for all of us!

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5531

The Patek Philippe Reference 5531 is distinguished as a World Time Minute Repeater, a highly complex combination of two of Patek Philippe's signature complications. It was initially introduced as a limited edition, highlighting both the brand's technical prowess in horology and its artistic application of métiers d'art, specifically cloisonné enamel work on the dial, depicting urban landscapes.

The case of the 5531 measures 40.20 mm in diameter and 11.49 mm in thickness, crafted in rose gold. It is powered by the self-winding Caliber R 27 HU, an integrated movement that allows the minute repeater to chime the local time as indicated by the world time function. The watch features a sapphire crystal.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking Patek Philippe's high complications combined with unique artistic dials. The initial release in 2017 featured two distinct cloisonné enamel dial variants, each depicting a Manhattan skyline, one in a daytime scene and the other at night, further enhancing its exclusivity and collector appeal within the grand complication series.

You're forgiven...

Just read this report very thoroughly and you'll be okay. It's not as good as the real thing, but we do cover most of the pieces.
