Some context : Within this year I hope to buy my first Patek. This will also be my only truly high end watch (30k+). A family heirloom and a life companion if you may. Having debated for 3-4 years now, it is clear that the 5960 fits my requirements and budget perfectly. Hence the conundrum.

Budget : my budget it somewhere in the range of 55k$. This is the limit. Although the 5960G, just introduced, is priced at around 65K, I'm counting on dealer discounts? or heavenly intervention to bring that within my range. the 5960P would ofcourse have to be pre-owned and the Steel one is most easily gotten.

Primary concerns :
1) Dial windows - This is the sore point for the 5960P. the 5960G and A have complete date windows for all 3 apertures, whereas the 5960P has this only for the date. I really want to know what seasoned collectors think of this aspect of the dial?
2) Value - as far as value retention is concerned, a pre-owned 5960P has already taken the hit. The 59601A(steel) seems to be worse off looking at prices of the white one in the pre-owned market.
3) Metal - A complicated Patek deserves to be in PM wouldn't you say?

In the end, other that the day-date-month apertures, collectibility is my primary concern. And for this I really would like you gentlemen to weight in. What would you do if you were me and had to pick one?

Ps. I know that discussing prices/value is frowned upon. However since this is a life defining decision for me and technically these 3 are identical, I couldn't help introducing the factor of "money". I apologise to those putt off by such a discussion.

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5960

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5960A, introduced in stainless steel, represents a significant offering within the brand's annual calendar chronograph series. This particular reference is notable for being the first annual calendar chronograph from Patek Philippe to be offered in a non-precious metal, making it a distinctive piece in the Complications collection. It combines practical complications with a robust case material, appealing to collectors seeking a blend of utility and horological complexity.

This reference features a 40.5mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber CH 28-520 QA 24H. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours and is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The dial is presented in white, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The integrated stainless steel bracelet complements the case material, providing a cohesive aesthetic.

The 5960A in stainless steel holds a specific position for collectors due to its material choice and the integrated bracelet, differentiating it from its precious metal counterparts. Its combination of an annual calendar and chronograph functions, along with the 24-hour indication, makes it a highly functional and mechanically interesting timepiece. The special hand set and case back decoration mentioned for this specific 5960A further emphasize its unique attributes within the production run.

Funny how this reference which actually exists in the PP catalogue since quite a while has become popular and controversial at the same time recently...

I shall save you the usual introduction "Each of the 3 have their pros & cons, only YOU can know which one you prefer, just follow what your heart tells you..." and go straight to the point : I'll tell you what I would do in MY shoes : - P : original version, several dial options to choose from ; I find the original grey dial version a bit too dull and would prefer a version with more character which happens to be the rarest and will probably better hold its value but... I would not go for i

If the strap is designed correctly,

there are no issues regarding space between the case and the strap. Best, Kari

Your picture seems to give you right on that point Kari...

...provided that the strap is very carefully designed and made as you say (the spring bars being located at the very end of the lugs). Still my preference goes to the either blue russian P version in terms of look, or the black dial P (but these 2 in platinum are not adapted to my wrist) or the latest G. But again there is little to argue it is a question of personal taste. I would be quite happy with a 1A on strap (I'm not fond of the bracelet) if well designed as you say, if bought at the wrig
