Dear Imran
I don”t know whether to thank you for the honor of judging these wonderful and thorough reviews; or curse you for asking me to have to choose a winner. I know, when judging Wrist Scan we all preface our decisions with compliments to all the participants and with mentions about how so many excellent entries there are from which to choose. But honestly-we are just picking pictures; nice pictures; of watches we find attractive. Now ask a bunch a Patek lovers to “write” about their special pieces and the passion rises several orders of analysis. So I sit here blown away; red eyes teary; brain sapped. And knowing more about Patek Philippe than I know about A. Lange & Söhne. How did that happen?!
The winner is Kari with his exhaustive review of his 5550P. I think this is a clear winner; and that is in no way a denigration of the other reviews. It’s just that Kari took the time to address every aspect of this watch; even down to the deployant and how to make it comfortable. He thoroughly discussed the AR Patek program (as did Baron) and was able to compare the 5550 with the other models that bear this recognition-including the new Aquanaut that succeeded it. And Kari was able to convey the uniquely special watch that 5550P is in its AR state. A “Grand Complication”, even if this is only Patek’s definition of one.
His review of the mechanics of the watch; comparison to other Perpetual Calendars; its specs and special features; all complete. I even enjoyed Kari’s one criticism of the watch-one I share-coupled with his “c'est la vie” attitude towards it. He’ll still wear it everywhere.
Throughout the review Kari added terrific photographs of the 5550, and the other watches he discussed in comparison-a nice touch, and helpful to me, a relative Patek novice.
cannot finish this review without discussing Kari’s story of how he came to obtain this special piece. That someone would wait 2 years to sell him this watch, after offering it when it first became available; and to refuse to sell it to other buyers “knowing” Kari would ask about “some day”… Well I am sure the way this 5550P came into Kari’s possession truly inspired his wonderful review.
My congratulations to a ll the entrants and especially to the winner.

I found all the reviews extensive, exhaustive, and well researched. What I especially liked was the personal touches everyone put into their reviews. Thank you all so much for educating me and especial congrats to Kari. And to the judge: well done sir - I don’t envy you having to choose from those stellar reviews! Cheers and a Happy New Year in advance! Julian
And I feel for Padj, not an easy task picking a winner among these reviews! Looking forward to read January entries! Best Blomman
.....a totally comprehensive review of a stunning watch. Top drawer review.....Kari....well-deserved win. And yes, two other comments. well done PADJ for judging and takint the time to evaluate it. And an even bigger well-done to Miranda for inititating the idea and getting us all to look at not only the aesthetics of a watch, but also the deep knowledge that underpins a watch. Bravo. Best to all, Joe
All reviews were expertly put together, and finely executed. Well done all, and especially to the 5550P story.
I would say that despite my initial comments it WAS fun; and educational. And so, thanks Imran. It was an honor.
