Dr.kol shares a humorous and heartwarming account of his Mother's Day gift-hunting journey, blending luxury watches with unexpected automotive twists. His narrative cleverly uses the search for a 'shopping bag' as a metaphor for a new BMW convertible, showcasing his Patek Philippe 5550P along the way. This post highlights the intersection of high horology, automotive passion, and family life.

Yesterday I went to pick up my wife a Mothers' Day present; or in fact present. The selection is better in Finland than in Estonia, so I took the fast boat from Tallinn, capital of Estonia to Helsinki, capita of Finland. The voyage time is 1 hour 30 minutes because the distance is just 46 NM. On board the vessel, I checked how does my latest Patek look like onboard.

My idea was to pick up two bags or in fact a bigger shopping bag to carry the smaller shopping bag. I tried to choose feminine colours for the bigger bag; Pearl White and some red leather. Also the gag needed to have a big opening in order to lift our 1 years 2 months old baby inside... That's how it looked in the shop from where I picked it up:

Hmm... Good enough for baby transport, probably fast enough. The hard metallic roof gives cover during the winter and the X-Drive help to drive when roads are covered with snow and ice. But the real bag? The luggage compartment is very small if it is adjusted in such a way that the roof can be opened... Yes, I found a bag that fits!

Happy Mothers' Day to all mothers! Best, Kari

Te watch is

MINE. But the car belongs now to the wife. I drove it home yesterday and it seemed to be such a car that I might borrow it. Quite often in fact. But Chanel - it's 100% sure I will not start to walk around carrying a handbag! Best, Kari

Dear Kari.....

You must be getting terribly bored with this 5550P so please allow me to borrow it when I see you in a few weeks....If only to give you a break from it ;) Take care and see you and the funny one very soon, Andy.

Dear Andy,

Naturally I'm getting bored. But I will first change the strap - perhaps the watch feels like new one then. I have ordered several with my own length and I'm looking forward getting the brown. Do you feel bad if I'm coming to the GTG wearing my 5550P or should I play modest and take my (then) new 5153G? Best, Kari

I'd be just as happy if you turned up with a Casio G-Shock...!!!

As long as you are there it will be fun....Greg is arranging the restaurant and inviting the usual suspects so I'm looking forward to it already :) See you soon, Andy.
