Bill's insightful post from 2022 highlights the Patek Philippe Ref. 5212A-001 Calatrava Weekly Calendar as a potential 'sleeper' in Patek's steel sports watch lineup, drawing parallels to the earlier Patek Philippe Ref. 5960. He encourages collectors to consider this unique weekly calendar complication before it potentially becomes discontinued, a common fate for steel Patek Philippe models outside the Nautilus and Aquanaut families. Bill's perspective offers a valuable look at identifying undervalued references within the Patek Philippe catalog.

Very cool new complication weekly annual calendar and the 5212 packs a lot into the hand written style text.

A complication in a steel watch spells success or maybe 5960 it brother in steel.

Nico spotted the 5960 many years ago and said it was a sleeper despite the apprehension of the bracelet. I waited to long but caught the 5960 train as it was hurling down the track. Today the baby has left the station for good.

The Patek 5212 - 52 weeks 12 months is leaving the station time to give it a strong look before it is too late.

If you want a Patek sport watch in steel other than nautilus or an aquanaut the 5212 is a great option to consider. We know how Patek loves to discontinue the steel models.

Have a great weekend.

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5212

The Patek Philippe Reference 5212A Calatrava Weekly Calendar introduced a novel complication to the brand's lineup, displaying not only the day and date but also the current week number and month. This function is particularly useful for individuals who track their schedules and business activities by week. The watch maintains the classic Calatrava aesthetic while incorporating a complex yet legible dial layout for its unique calendar display.

Crafted in stainless steel, a less common material for Patek Philippe complications, the 5212A features a 40mm case with a distinctive stepped lug design. It houses the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C J SE, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. This movement provides a power reserve of approximately 35-45 hours and incorporates a new base caliber for the brand, developed specifically for this weekly calendar mechanism.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a Patek Philippe with a distinctive and practical complication, offered in a robust and understated material. Its introduction marked a notable addition to the Calatrava collection, demonstrating Patek Philippe's continued innovation in calendar functions. The steel construction also positions it as a more accessible entry point for some collectors into the brand's complicated offerings.
