I've greatly admired the handicraft pieces from Patek and this is one I came across that I liked very much.

Pardon the not so good caseback shot but if you look at the micro rotor, you will see carvings of birds; a nice touch in my opinion.

About the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5075

The Calatrava reference 5075 is a limited edition minute repeater, distinguished by its intricate dial artistry. This particular reference was part of a series celebrating the Chinese Year of the Horse, showcasing Patek Philippe's dedication to rare handcrafts and thematic editions within its classic Calatrava line. It represents a fusion of high horology and decorative arts, appealing to collectors interested in both mechanical complexity and artisanal finishes.

The watch features a case crafted from 18k white gold, housing a self-winding minute repeater movement. The dial is notable for its hand-engraved horse motif, inspired by Chunar horses, executed with meticulous detail. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, offering clear visibility of the artistic work and time indications. The movement provides a power reserve suitable for daily wear, consistent with Patek Philippe's high standards.

As a limited edition minute repeater with a specific thematic engraving, the 5075 holds particular appeal for collectors of Patek Philippe's rare handcrafts series. It stands out within the broader Calatrava collection due to its unique combination of a grand complication and a highly decorative dial, making it a significant piece for those who appreciate the brand's artistic and technical capabilities.

Many thanks for this spectacular Patek! Rare Handcrafts are (as is probably well known! :-)) my favorite timepieces, for their stunning marriage between art and horology which Patek has historically been able to preserve at the highest levels! :-)

For our interested forum members, reference 5075 in enamel, which was introduced in year 2000 and offered until about 2004, is the direct predecessor (in a sense, along with ref. 5076) of today's incredible, out-of-catalog Rare Handcraft production: refs. 5077, 5086, 5088, 5089, 5738, and perhaps my favorite, 5177 Thanks again for sharing with the Patek forum --- and my sincere best of luck to the fortunate new owner of this incredible Patek!

I'm sorry to say I find neither the emaillage nor the cloisonnage impressive. Some of the colouring & shading is downright simple - e.g. the blue and light green - the cell work is only adequate and the bird seems to be hanging on by its finger nails.
