Amanico's tribute to the Panerai Radiomir PAM 198 offers a deep dive into one of Panerai's most esteemed limited editions. This article remains highly relevant for collectors seeking insights into the brand's historical use of JLC movements and the subtle distinctions between its precious metal Radiomir models. Amanico's personal preference for the platinum version provides a valuable collector's perspective on this rare reference.

I just wanted here to give an hommage to one of my very favourite Panerai Vendome, the Rad Pam 198...

It's basicaly a Pam 190, but in platinum, and a brown dial.

These 8 Days Rad house a JLC movement, and were produced from 2004 ( letter G) to 2006 ( letter I ), in:
Pam 190: 550, 1000, and 550 pieces.
Pam 197 ( Rose Gold ): 200, 300, and 300 pieces.
Pam 198: LE of 50 pieces in 2004.
Pam 208: LE Of 5 pieces in 2004, too.
So, a total of 2905 watches.

So, in 2004, Panerai launched one of their finest Radiomir, with the Blackseal, and the Pam 210, all 3 in 45 mm case..

This Rad 8 days has really something, with its very sober look, and the power reserve indicator hidden in the case back,
and no other indications nor complications on the dial, as the new 8 Days Rad gets, in a pumpkin style.LOL

Don't get me wrong, I love ALL the 8 Days 190, 197, 198, and 208...I just have a light preference for the 198.

Look at this beauty:

As often with Panerai, the more sober, the nicer...

For once, the movement is nicely executed and very accurate....Well, conceived by JLC it would be amazing if it were not...

Look at the finish, and you'll aslo notice the power reserve indicator nicely placed.

Why do I prefer the platinum version to the others?

For the density of this metal, yes, a bit heavy, but very comfortable to wear:

And for its brown dial which gives the watch a subtle and refined look, also a bit vintage...With these golden hands.

With this combo it's more casual than dressy, but put a crocodile strap, and it will be more the contrary...

There is, as I said , another Platinum Rad 8 Days with the same JLC movement, that was made in 5 pices for Sincere, the Pam 208, and I saw only 1 piece, I doubt there are more than the one I saw...

The only diffrence with the 198 is the Hobnail dial.

Here's a pic of the true rare beast...I don't remember who took this pic that seem to be official, so I will credit him on request, of course.

Thkis is a fantastic watch I just wanted to share with you!

Best.
Nicolas

About the Panerai PAM00190 - Radiomir 8 Day Power Reserve Ref. PAM190

The PAM00190 represents Panerai's Radiomir 8 Day Power Reserve model within the Radiomir 8 Day series. This reference delivers extended power reserve functionality in the brand's cushion-shaped Radiomir case format, distinguishing itself through its manual-winding movement and eight-day running capability.

The watch features a 45mm polished steel case fitted with sapphire crystal and rated for 100-meter water resistance. The black dial provides contrast within the steel case construction. A fixed bezel surrounds the dial, while the manual-winding movement requires daily interaction from the wearer to maintain the extended power reserve function.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking substantial case presence combined with manual-winding engagement. The PAM190 offers entry into Panerai's extended power reserve complications while maintaining the fundamental Radiomir case architecture. The combination of 45mm sizing, steel construction, and manual movement positions this model for enthusiasts who prioritize mechanical interaction and substantial wrist presence.

That is just so beautiful Nicolas! The brown dial and gold hands go very well. I like the 198 better with just the brown dial over the Hobnail on the 208. Does the 208 also come with the brown dial? The JLC movement is so sweet and the putting the power reserve indicator on the back makes for a very clean dial.

That is a real LE. I can only count the 190 among my 8 Days unless you let me count my, PAM 233 Manufacture 8 days and my JLC 8 days. Love them all. Best value for money have to be the 190. Any one out there with access should try to get one at their local AD. When they are gone...??? Also you know the other 8 days in my stable. Thanks Bill
