Arie - Mr Orange challenges perceptions of Panerai's size with his PAM 574, comparing its dimensions to a 40mm A. Lange & SΓΆhne 1815. He explores how the Luminor's case shape and dial design contribute to its larger wrist presence despite its modest thickness. The post also delves into the P.1000 movement's unique hacking seconds feature and its practical implications for a watch without a minute track.

Is there such a thing? Apparantly there is. Just look at the dimensions of the PAM 574 next to the 40 mm ALS 1815. Who would have guessed?

On the wrist however it is a totally different ball game. The PAM shows much much larger on the wrist than the 1815. Probably due to the case shape and most likely the dial with the big numbers on it. Obviously the styles are incomparable. The black dialed 1815 goes with about anything and that is something you really cannot say the PAM 574 does. Although a big part in is also debit to the green strap. I'm sure when I will place a dark brown alligator strap on the Panerai it will town down so much you will almost be able to call it a dressy.

But the configuration of the 574 is fun as it is now. Fresh and spring/summery like. Maybe a nice bright orange strap would work too. Especially coming Wednesday. This particular color green doesn't make it an allround style, but as I said; fun for the summer months.

The P.1000 movement. Nothing special, as we all know, finish wise. 3-days power reserve which is good! It does have a quirky 'complication' (if you can call that a complication??). If you pull the crown out to set the time the second hand resets immediately to 0 and the balance wheel stops. This way you can synchronise the time exactly on the second. There is only one small issue. This Panerai does not have a minute track. So why on earth would you need a function like that in a watch like this?? I do like it because its a neat feature. But it just doesn't make any sense in a watch with a dial like this.

Anyway: fun watch. Great dimensions (only 10 mm thick!), fits under a shirt cuff easily. So I think this Panerai makes a good chance of lasting a much longer time with me than my long gone PAM 359 and PAM 379. We will see.

About the Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days Automatic Ref. PAM359

The PAM359 represents Panerai's Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days Automatic in a 44mm polished steel configuration. This reference sits within the Luminor Marina series, distinguished by its automatic movement and three-day power reserve capability.

The watch features a 44mm polished steel case paired with a matching polished steel bezel. Protection comes from a 2.6mm sapphire crystal, while water resistance extends to 300 meters. The piece is powered by the Calibre P.9000 movement, providing the stated three-day power reserve through automatic winding.

The PAM359 appeals to collectors seeking a steel sports watch with substantial case dimensions and extended power reserve. The polished steel construction and 44mm sizing position this reference for those preferring larger case proportions within the Luminor Marina collection. The automatic movement eliminates manual winding requirements while maintaining the three-day reserve specification.

I find the strap to be part of the appeal :)

The kermit green makes it hard to be neutral on this one. And the more modest size makes it more universal in terms of wrists it will fit, even if the strap makes it less so otherwise

Panerai has a millesime production, beside the limited editions.

It can be a millsesime of 500, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 and so on... per year. Best, Nicolas

Superb comparison

And indeed, they are almost the same size but then again the Panerai looks so much bigger on the wrist, with a nice presence. I\'m glad to see this post on your PAM574, I was hesitating on this model but you wear it beautifully and indeed ideal for the summer. Congrats !!! Great choice. PS : the ALS is off course awesome

tnx

It\'s a fun watch with this kind of strap, and having the possibility to turn it around in a dressy kind of watch is nice. The dimensions of the case make it an all rounder.
