Hello dear fellows! After lurking for a while, this is my first post on PuristS.

I've seen many amazing timepieces here and I'd like to share with you my humble one and his story. It has a little economic value, but it's invaluable to my heart.

It's a automatic triple date Speedy gifted to me many years ago by my dear grandpa, in a dark moment of his, when he thought his life was close to an end (luckily he  passed-away many years after).

I was looking for a moonwatch, but in the end I liked this one the most, it's more shiny!

He bought it for me, as a remembrance for the future. He was a WW2 veteran and spent several months in a concentration camp after being caought by nazis. When he came back from Germany his weight was only 40kg!.Then he spent all his life working and saving money for the family. It must have been a great sacrifice for him to spend so much money on a watch, but also an immense pleasure to make me happy.

This is why I love this watch so much, I've been wearing it everyday 24x7 since 1998 and the only issue I've had so far is the discolouring of the tachy scale. Even repainting it leads to discolouration after a few weeks, so I decided to keep it like this. Regular maintenance and services took care of the rest.

If you kept on reading until now, I guess you have a favourite watch and I bet there is a story behind it. Would you like to share it?

Kindest regards,
maxmanzo

Huge welcome

This is the forum for you. Just about everyone has a very personal attachment to a particular watch and just about everyone is passionate about their watches. A touching story of yours and so good that you still have it. I have one too from my grandfather but itr is just too old and fragile to wear. I have one from my father which is also my most precious watch.......

Welcome, maxmanzo.

We all have a story or two behind our favorite pieces. Similar to your grandfather, I have given my three sons watches that I wore so that they can wear it now, while I'm alive. I take great pleasure in seeing them wear it. Why wait till I die? I also wrote a little story (or history) for each piece so they can know why I purchased each, who I bought it from, etc. Of course, I still need to wear a few watches so my sons will receive my other watches after I pass from this life. Thank you for sha

I too think I'll leave the Speedy to my daughter when she'll be grown up.

And It will be yet another excuse to buy other watches !)
