Samwan's horological journey, spanning three decades, offers a compelling narrative on the enduring appeal of vintage timepieces. His recent return to classic designs, particularly an Omega Seamaster retailed by Tiffany's and a Rolex 8171 "Padellone," underscores a collector's evolving appreciation for simplicity and historical significance. This piece explores the allure that draws seasoned collectors back to the foundational elegance of vintage watches.

30 years ago, I started with vintages. Then I moved on to modern wristwatches. Three years ago, I unloaded the bulk of my modern watches....not a bad idea in hindsight.

Lately I am drawn to vintages again - simple elegant designs, probably time only pieces. Here is one of them...an Omega Seamaster sold at Tiffany's in 1964.

Here's my other favorite - Rolex 8171 "Padellone"

This omega is fantastic. This is the gold period for omega. Unlike the current watches (imo).

. . . you do, we'll celebrate with . . . . . . Olympia beer t-shirts. Unfortunately, Olympia went out of business years ago, so we won't be able to raise a toast. šŸ»

...why did they ever stop making it? So elegant and useful.

VS some of the other vintage triple dates. For me the JLC and VC’s still hold great value in this time period.
