Subexplorer's exploration of the Omega Speedmaster '1957 Replica' ref. 3594.50.00 offers a compelling look at a nuanced reference often misunderstood due to its nomenclature. His detailed post highlights why this particular Speedmaster, despite its 'replica' designation, is a significant and high-quality Omega timepiece. This article delves into the watch's unique characteristics, historical context, and its place within the broader Speedmaster lineage, providing valuable insights for both new and seasoned collectors.

The Omega CK2998 is a chronograph model recognized for its robust design and functional aesthetic. It belongs to a lineage of chronographs that established a distinct visual identity for the brand, characterized by a clear and legible dial layout. This reference is notable for its early adoption of a tachymeter scale on the bezel, a feature that would become a hallmark of many subsequent sports chronographs.
This reference features a 39 mm stainless steel case, housing the manual-winding Caliber 321. This movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a Hesalite crystal and offers a water resistance of 60 meters. The fixed tachymeter bezel is a key design element, framing a black dial.
The CK2998 holds interest for collectors seeking early examples of Omega's chronograph development. Its design elements, including the case proportions and dial configuration, represent a significant period in the brand's history. The presence of the Caliber 321 further enhances its appeal among enthusiasts of vintage chronograph movements.
... is guilty here. They made a bad choice of name for this model I feel. Cheers! Abel
. . . most collector's radar until recently. I recall seeing them in dealer's displays lingering for years. By the way, have you ever seen a beat-up CK2915 with a pristine bezel? I have. And I believe that bezel was 'lifted' from a Broad Arrow. ;-)
Interesting to note your serial start with 7xxxxxxx and mine start with 4xxxxxxx Same model 3594.50 Anyone know why?
An interesting detail is the color of its dial (at least in mine) which looks not deep black like the present Moonshine but a faded black. I don´t know if it was originally like this or the dial really faded. I bougth this watch second hand a few years ago in pristine condition. Guess its past owner used it very very little. And yes, I remember viewing viewing and reading some time ago an article in an Internet portal about a beautiful original CK 2915 whose bezel was borrowed from a Broad Arrow
... you show is very interesting because it reproduces the engraving of the original CK 2915. I had never seen this case on the 3594.50 so I can´t answer your question. I feel that Omega shoud have used the case back you show better than the usual medallion one of mine. It´s very interesting to know that some watches came with this earlier design markings. Best, Abel.
... and of course so wonderful if we could gather one of each in our collections! Cheers! Abel
