Pplater embarks on a quest for a new timepiece, leading him to an Omega dealership where he encounters two remarkable watches. His post, infused with a playful 'in-joke,' captures the emotional and aesthetic experience of discovering watches that transcend mere timekeeping, focusing on their artistic and mechanical beauty. This narrative highlights the profound connection collectors feel with exceptional horology.

It was the end of the search for an answer to the challenge posed by ‘da Judge’ - what do you do with the change if you trade down to a Hemi Challenger SRT8 ? (Sorry, dear reader; it’s a weak in-joke, but hopefully your indulgence will be rewarded).

The search ended in a tray on the display cabinet of an Omega dealership where a remarkably patient and kind store manager suggested he might have the answer in his safe. He certainly did: a thing of contradictory beauty. Common nobility. Complicated simplicity. Plain elegance.:

“Care to try it on?”, he asked. Are you kidding - is the sea wet???  The next ten minutes were spent holding it up, holding it down, holding it in the light, holding it near, holding it far and holding it in the highest esteem.

Here was a man, though, who knew how to parlay reverence into religious ecstasy. “If you like that one, then you might like this one”:

The man was a master of understatement; that openworked face is stunning. It’s difficult to tell the time given that the painted hands on the ‘mystere’ disc merge somewhat into the plates, but it is so mesmerising that telling the time becomes a distracting afterthought.

The sheer quality of workmanship in these watches (regrettably not captured in the poor quality snaps) gives life to the concept of timepieces as art :

Thanks for sowing the seed Art. Now, where's the nearest Dodge dealer?

Cheers,

pplater.

The hell with the Dodge, pplater . . .

. . . that, as the late Jackie Gleason would have said, is 'a mere bag of shells' in comparison ;-). Most cordially, Art

I agree with Art... Think of it this way... Gas will be gone soon...

HI Gas will be gone soon.. So the Hemi Challenger SRT8 will become a Garage Queen. But your Omega will still be ticking!! Good Hunting Bill Sohne

Ah, now I get it, pplater . . .

. . . at first reading, I thought you were raising the possibility of acquiring both a Dodge and The Omega, but it's now clear that you're ready to trade down to a Dodge to possess the Dream. My apologies if my response was misinterpreted, and I can certainly see how that would be the case . . . the meaning of my comment was that the Dodge was superfluous. Warmest regards, Art

No problemo Art...

...PM sent. Any mischief at all arises in the original post - apologies to all. It was perhaps rude (at the highest) or obscure (at the least) not to make plain the original post referenced as the "in-joke". For those in the least interested, it was here: click here Cheers, pplater.
