And right after his inquisitiveness comes his ability to express thoughts edgily without crossing the line. He can establish a position without being argumentative - that's a rare talent.

Don't know Mostel personally, but if pressed to guess, I would say he's a probably a trial lawyer. Defense, at that. Kinda like Perry Mason.
