mkt33 updates the Montblanc Rieussec family album, focusing on the refreshed Rieussec GMT introduced at SIHH 2012. This post meticulously details the aesthetic and technical changes from the original 2008 model, offering a comparative analysis for collectors interested in the evolution of this popular chronograph.
Last year I summarized the history of the Rieussec model line from its debut at SIHH2008 to SIHH 2011
However since the last show, we have seen a Rieussec piece unique commissioned for Emirates Airlines so let me add it to the "family album"

At SIHH 2012 we see a refreshed Rieussec GMT. First released in 2008, this stainless steel Rieussec quickly became a favorite among watch collectors.

Now check out the aesthetic changes on the new Rieussec GMT

The "6" is gone, replaced by the partially skeletonized dial. The chronograph disks are easier to read and better indexed (see the minute wheel). The extraneous luminous markers have been omitted. The third GMT hand has been replaced by a wheel. The minute track has been removed. There is now a motif on the "night" indicator so it is not solid blue. The date font has been changed. Also the decorative cote de geneve plate has been eliminated so that the entire dial is composed of the barley corn guilloche.
Here are two wrist shots

But which one do you like better on the wrist? Which one is more "legible"?
Believe it or not, I think my preference is with the original version. If I could create a franken Rieussec GMT, I would keep the original layout and just swap out the old chronograph disks with the new ones.
Here are the technical specifications for the new Rieussec Open Hometime. Anything catch your eye?
I'm interested in the "special toothing for more efficient power transmission". This is new because I don't recall reading about this for the MBR 200.
