KL670, through jrwong23, provides a compelling long-term owner's review of his Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours, offering a user-centric perspective distinct from initial impressions. He focuses on the daily wearability and performance of the stainless steel, gray dial variant, contrasting it with the rose gold and white dial version. This review highlights the watch's unique aesthetic appeal and its practical accuracy over time.

Posting on behalf of Purist KL670 as he is having some issues logging in (our technical team is helping him as I type this). The owner's review below is from KL670:

Hi everyone,

After Christianch's recent thorough review, I felt very compelled to write another longer term review on my Rising Hours.

Rather than being repetitive and going over what Christianch already eloquently reiterated, I'd like to speak more from a user's standpoint. The main differences between Christianch's watch and mine are that mine is stainless and has the gray dial whereas his has rose gold and the white dial. Value wise, the rose gold apparently is the winner. Not only that, I think the white dial also gives it a more formal and elegant look.

Well, enough trashing about my watch. In fact, I actually love my watch a lot. Though not as dressy as the Rose gold version, I think it gives a totally different vibe, a sportier and approachable vibe which I like a great deal. It's a very wearable watch although I've been babying it quite a bit since it's still my one and only mechanical watch.

I remember in the beginning I wrote about how in the first couple weeks, my watch didn't gain or lose any time. Well, that didn't last forever. So far, it loses approximately 2 minutes in a month on average which comes out to be 4 seconds a day. Not bad, right? I also need to add that I do not have a winder which I'm not sure makes any difference when it comes to time loss.

As far as aesthetics, I honestly love everything about my watch. It's the perfect size on my wrist. I love the guilloché pattern which gives a sense of texture. I love the unique rotating hours. I love the both the day and date displays. Last but not least, the rotating discs, the bridge, day/date displays, and the overall dial create a lot of depth to the visual of the watch. All in all I give it an A+ in the looks department Grinning face with smiling eyes

Off to the criticism, there's a couple issues I've noticed. First, on the inside of the strap, I noticed some kind of staining or fading of the leather. It's only specific to that one area which I find somewhat obscure. In all honesty, I don't know if that's a common issue on other leather straps.

The second issue is the 72-hour power reserve. On a couple of occasions, I found myself having to wind the watch after letting it sit for only 1 day which is a third of the suggested time. Given I don't wear my watch to the gym where I generate a lot of movement, I was expecting something more than 24 hours. Again, that maybe due to my inexperience with other mechanical watches.

As you could tell, my so called criticisms were extremely minor but I figured I'd try to give an accurate impression of my experience. Overall, I'm still proudly enjoying it every time I put it on my wrist. It's worth every penny I spent=)

I had great pleasure posting on your behalf and I hope our tech team can figure out your login issue soon For the leather strap, yours looks quite strange as it is concentrated on that particular part and it is quite black. I have a friend who shared with me a similar situation on his leather strap from another brand and it was quite black too on the inside of the strap but the patch looks very different from yours In hot and humid Singapore, if the inside of the strap is a light beige color, pe

Regarding the black wear on the underneath of the strap, that's where the majority of the wear and tear results because im assuming it's the area where the strap bends the most around your wrist. And being in humid Singapore only exacerbates the speed of the wear and tear. Glad you're enjoying your Rieussec! I loved wearing the rose gold variant when I had the opportunity to test drive one for entire month many years ago. Cheers, Anthony

Robin, I was looking at my first Timewalker the other day thinking that maybe I need to clean the leather strap. It is still in perfect condition in the sense that there are no tears or peeling but it does look a bit faded. What product do you recommend? I imagine I should do my GreyTech strap while I am at it as well. Thanks Todd

I normally use this neutral color leather cream from the luxury bags company eg from Coach or other brands Actually for Montblanc leather goods, the boutiques can apply leather cream for our leather products too. We can also ask them to service our leather straps I believe. Will check with them and revert Cheers Robin

Thanks Robin, for doing the legwork and posting for me. I had much fun writing it as it brought back the excitement I had when I first purchased it. I remember getting quite a few compliments from a bunch of watch enthusiasts when I went to an event with them a couple weeks ago. Though their watches were of a totally more superior league, I still felt pretty proud of what I had on my wrist.

And thanks for the wonder review! Those fellow watch lovers who complimented your Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours have good taste ! It is indeed a very interesting complication with a monopusher chronograph with turning Chrono discs and a rising hour function with day night indicator I really like this watch a lot too. If only my wrist were slightly bigger ! Cheers Robin
