Just picked this up, literally dropped off an hour ago. I have been wanting a new fountain pen even though I donโt write much ๐ I like the design and the blue and silver tones is to my aesthetic. Roaring 20s is a cool era, one may say we are in that era now again ๐คทโโ๏ธ I got the ink and notebook as well. Will write with it later. Assume it writes like the black one.
Key Points from the Discussion
- The Montblanc Great Characters Homage to the Great Gatsby Special Edition's design is directly inspired by the dazzling Art Deco skyscrapers of 1920s New York, reflecting the booming city's brightly lit high-rise faรงades at night. It also pays homage to an early Montblanc writing instrument from the Art Deco era.
- The pen offers a smooth writing experience, particularly with a fine nib, which is a preferred choice for many collectors. The Gatsby pen pairs well with Montblanc Gatsby Green ink, complementing other platinum-detailed pens like the 149 with cool grey ink.
- The accompanying notebook and ink are also highly regarded, with Montblanc Irish Green ink being a popular choice for experimentation among collectors. Fine nibs are often preferred for their suitability to various writing styles.
- The blue and silver aesthetic of the Gatsby pen is a significant draw for collectors, who often anticipate seeing ink samples to evaluate its performance and visual appeal.
- While the Montblanc Gatsby pen is tempting, some collectors prioritize other luxury acquisitions, such as an IWC Aquatimer, demonstrating the diverse interests within the collector community.
- The pen's design allows it to rest on its clip, and the loop in the clip can be used to cradle the barrel, offering a practical way to display or temporarily set down the pen, despite Montblanc pens generally being heavier than brands like Lamy.
