Bimbeano's post from 2012 captures a sentiment many automotive enthusiasts eventually experience: a shift from chasing raw horsepower and modern conveniences to appreciating the visceral, engaging experience of older cars. His photo essay explores this evolving preference, contrasting the clinical efficiency of contemporary vehicles with the raw, unfiltered joy of driving classics. This reflection offers valuable insight into what truly defines driving pleasure beyond mere specifications.

A couple of weeks ago i wondered ... were do all these horses come from ? It appears every decent car has a lot of them  ... 200 horses really fit underneath the bonnet ? I still wonder how they do it !
4 cars: 1000+ horses .. i bet you they wouldn't fit in the workshop if they were real ... .

Times are changing soo fast these days i even take my wife's dog to have new tires fit onto my car ... i must be out of my mind ... A Clio RS with 201 horses, one dog and a monkey behind the wheel ... 203 animals in a car ????

A friend gave me 2 used tires with still alot of meat on ... so i decided to take of the wheels and have them fitted by a friend ... no sparewheel, no jack, no nothing in the car ... so i spend a lot of time getting some more professional stuff to be able to take of those darn wheels .... modern times ... .

While waiting i was watching some horses ...

560 here ...

Another 300 while sipping my Martini ....

... another 600 or so ....

... hmmm ... how come i start to like these old cars more and more ???

Lately there has been alot of fuzz in the automotive press around a little low powered sportscar with a 2 litre boxer engine ... i know it is really really underpowered with only 200 horsepower ... but hey, one has to be happy with that ?

So i had a go in this very underpowered car with no torque at all ... smile ...

... it was quite a treat, not that agressive as my little Clio but a lot of fun ... a shame i only had it for about half an hour ...

The 'little' boxer-engine was very rev-happy and felt very fast, fun assured ... but .....

... today i had a go in this one, same power (only 200 hp like the Clio and Toyota) but a six cilinder boxer 3 litre air-cooled engine .... Not really fast, no handling like any modern hot hatch, a clumsy gearbox, soft brakes ... but did i have fun !!!

It appears i have lost a lot of interest in our modern day cars ... or our overpowered overtorqued easy to handle 1500+ kilo 4 wheeled vehicles ....

So i might as well enjoy a cup a coffee and a chocolate truffle .. to reflect on things yet to come ...

Should i be afraid ?

Bim

Hi Nicolas, have you seen this one in my barn yet? i can't remember if it was there when you visited me ... . It's a 1980 3 liter with 204 hp ... doesn't really feel like 200 hp .. but neither does our Jaguar :-) ... or does the Clio feel like 300 hp ? :-) . About the 911, it's the third time i tried it out and i must say each time it's getting better and better ... a shame it's a bit out of my league but i would really like a red one with the black Fuchs-wheels .... okay i'll stop now and conti

I was flashed at 260 Km / h, on the motorway back from Blois... Promised, next time I will drive slowly. ;) Best, Nicolas PS: Yes, I saw the old 911 3.2 in your barn... But the owner forgot to let you the keys. :)

Correct, do remember you saw it ... it's a 3.0 .. the 3.2 is the same model but younger and a bit more technically advanced ... the 964 is a 3.6 ... but that you knew:-) ... My lawyer friend here used to have the 964 RS ... he sold it and bought a 997 GT3 RS 3.8 with the money :-) Life's not fair ... when you s(h)it on a chair :-) Bim

I often thought of getting a 964, that last incarnation of what I thought was a very good car. Great values today. Will out handle a 911.

It is a sports car with 200 bhp and in its day was very fast. 200 bhp is easy these days and my 6 pot boxer 3 litre engine puts out 270 bhp in a boring 4 door sedan. My honda accord from 2003 was 200 bhp and that was a 4 door estate. But do we need this power when, especially in uk and europe where cameras are everywhere. G
