Nicolas (amanico) takes us on a nostalgic journey with the Mazda Cosmo, a car that challenged conventional design and engineering with its distinctive rotary engine. His post invites collectors to consider the Cosmo's unique aesthetic, prompting a discussion on whether its lines evoke Italian flair or American muscle car influences. This deep dive into the Cosmo's legacy highlights its enduring appeal and the passionate community surrounding this automotive icon.

Rotative engine, and a very special design.

What do you see, here? Italian Design, or something borrowed to the Corvettes?

I must admit I quite love it.

Best,

Nicolas

The rotaries are strong and fast but quite troublesome. I spent half hour last night trying to help a buddy resolve some issues on his RX-7. I think he has had at least 10 Mazda rotaries - I’ve just had one, very briefly. I do like the look of the Cosmo Cazalea

components in the cooling system in top shape (water pump, hoses, everything). One overheating episode will usually warp the "barrel" ending the life of that engine. The four rotor Mazda 787B that won Le Mans ('91) was a mind blowing race car! Little ole Mazda took that engine design further than any other manufacturer.

...my grandfather had a coupe version, not this sporty model. It was a manual transmission, and I remember it being a very quiet car. It had a big enough trunk to carry two golf bags : )
