Blomman Mr Blue shines a light on the often-overlooked Longines Conquest reference 9000, presenting it as an iconic model deserving of more attention beyond the brand's more famous 'grail' pieces. His post highlights the watch's rich history, diverse iterations, and distinctive design elements, inviting collectors to appreciate its unique charm.
Friends,
When we talk Longines, we often focus on the grails, the Divers, the Cal 13 ZN, Wheems, …
Which is natural…
But Longines have a long and rich history and this time I thought we should have a closer look on one of Longiens very iconic models, iconic, but maybe not with grail status…
The Longines Conquest reference 9000:
[Ad from 1959]
Launched in 1954, iterated in different versions all the way into the 1960s.
Started as a time only, automatic watch, over time different function was added.
[Ad from 1957]
[Ad from 1960]
Calendar (in different positions), alarm, different dial versions and case versions was added to the 9000 – 90XX series.
[Ad from 1961]
My personal favourite is the base, the ref 9000, time only.
The characteristic wide indexes and the two-tone silver dial.
Silver and Gold, Gold hands and indexes on top of the Silver dial.
The strong case with good size, 35.5mm and wide lugs, 18mm between.
The Gold fish medallion on the back, indication of waterproof.
Screw in case back. Notice the number on the backside of the lug, at this point, Longines still stamped the number on the lug and same number inside the case back to match.
Rounded, signed crown.
Inside is the Longines Calibre 19 AS. Good, reliable, a true work horse!
Inside the case back, reference 9000, notice the matching number from the lug.
And yes, the watch is complete!
I did mention, “pair”: so here is the second one.
Same just different dial colour.
Silver on black combo. Hard to resist!
Both are from approx. 1957. Now waiting in line to go to my watchmaker for some SPA treatment…
YIN & YANG a la Longines!
To me, vintage Longines is way underrated and deserves to be explored more!
Do you agree?

Now my turn to share in appreciation, my one and only Longines the 1967 Ultrachron cal 431, a 36000bph movement which was among the best movements made in the late 60's-early 70's Have a nice week Best regards Georges
Here is a relative to yours, the 7924: Best Blomman
Mr. Silver dial chooses black?! Best Blomman
best regards Georges
. . . with you, dear friend! '56 Longines Conquest . . . . . . handed down from Dad over a decade ago. It was a gift from his eldest brother, one of three Conquests Uncle George acquired in the summer of '56. The other two were both lost to burglaries, so this is the only one of the trio remaining. Both Bill Sohne and Tony C have remarked on the likelihood of the dial not being original. It was serviced by Longines in '65, so they very well may have replaced the dial then. I really don't wear it
Such a cool combo, dear friend! Yes, watches worth more wrist time... Looking forward to see these back from watchmaker! Best Blomman
