Diracpoint initiates a compelling discussion comparing the dial aesthetics of the original A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk (Ref. 140.025) with its updated iteration. This article delves into the nuanced design changes, particularly focusing on the enlarged sub-seconds dial and its impact on overall visual balance. Diracpoint's keen eye for detail prompts a community-wide examination of how technical advancements sometimes coincide with shifts in design philosophy.
When I see them side by side I agree with your opinion on the larger small (should that be "the not so small anymore?😉) seconds. So lets say the score is 1-1.
The proportions look and feel better (and better-balanced; I agree with what you noted). It seems Lange has a tendency to take steps back in the looks department whenever technical advances are made. Three quickly come to mind: The latest is this Zeitwerk update. Clearly technically and functionally superior to the old one, but not as good looking, front and especially back (I adore the anchor and the visible stopwork that are no more). Second is the Lange 1. Maybe it’s just me but the first-gen
the new face looks to me like a swollen nose.
on the time bridge is definitely nice. Gives it more contrast!
the sub seconds dial proportion is a bit off.
I think the dial redesign was not necessary for ZW or dato. Perhaps they felt they have to change something on the dial simply because they are updating it. On the bright side, however, it keeps gen 1 models special!
