SJX's 2009 report on the A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk dinner in Singapore offers a valuable historical snapshot of a significant new release event. This post not only captures the excitement surrounding the Zeitwerk's debut but also provides early collector impressions of this technically innovative timepiece. The detailed account, including insights from Lange executives, makes this a crucial reference for understanding the watch's initial reception and enduring appeal.
A week ago Fabian Krone and Arnd Einhorn were in Singapore to showcase the Zeitwerke and some of the SIHH 2009 collection. Fabian and Arnd hosted a dinner for 20 guests, organised by Peter Chong of the Lange Owners' Group, at Iggy's located in the Regent Hotel, reputedly the best restaurant in Singapore (or even Asia according to the San Pellegrino Top 100 restaurants ranking).

The evening was thoroughly enjoyable and the food lived up to its reputation.
Many thanks to Fabian, Arnd and Peter for the wonderful event.

Reactions to the Zeitwerke and Richard Lange Pour le Merite were extremely favourable; the Zeitwerke has to be seen in the metal to be appreciated.
Some thoughts on the watches: 1. The Zeitwerke is an extremely impressive watch, a technical achievement and magnificent quality as is to be expected from Lange. But it is not a beautiful or elegant watch, it is large and somewhat ungainly. Yet The exposed remontoir mechanism is interesting but ugly in my opinion. I don't like the way it breaks the lines of the 3/4 plate. Yet overall the Zeitwerke is an immensely attractive watch. The concept is simple yet sophisticated and brilliantly executed,
We were fortunate enough to enjoy Iggy's tasting menu for the evening. The first course was beef tongue, which was originally on the left of the plate below but it was absent mindedly consumed before the picture was taken. Next was a salad. Then came the duo of foie gras - pan-fried foie gras and creme brulee of foie gras. Followed by sanma over fried wild rice. This is especially good. Capellini with smoked fish roe was the next course. Then came the roast suckling pig - excellent. After which
and I love the Zeitwerk. Especially in pink or platinum. GEO
They adhere strongly to their aesthetic, and leave the technical tour de force of their mechanical mastery at the back of the watch. They do not over stretch their offerings on new models, or start to design weird and wonderful watches. Truly Fabian Krone is to be applauded in building the marque rather than pandering to the vaguaries of fashion. Thanks for the photos of the event. Wish I could have been there. Iggy's or the Fat Duck as a preference? Cheers Andrew H
The food is less theatrical, more mundane but it's great food. - SJX
