Apologies for the reflections in the picture, it was impossible to take otherwise.

Well, I had a chance to seethe new black dialed Richard Lange PLM. What an amazing amazing watch. The white painted numerals on a matte black finish give a classic timeless but modern feel to this watch. I had a chance to compare it side by side with the enamel Rose Gold Richard Lange PLM.

I couldn't take a side by side pic, but I am sure most here are familiar with the enameled dialed RL PLM.

My main observations were (and of course everyone's personal tastes differ!):

1. There is a clear difference between the enamel dial and the black finish on the black dial. I don't think this takes away from the black dialed version. In fact, I treat them as two different timepieces. Maybe the enameled dial versions will be seen as the 'Handwerkunst' version of this range, i.e. an extra sep up of work compared to the black dialed version.

2. The red accents against the black dial are just magnificent, a small touch that makes a huge difference. The dial gives a nice matte effect, and I fell in love with it.

3. The enameled version is 0.2mm thicker, and you can notice the difference. Coupled with the brushed case sides on the black dialed version, vs the all polished version of the r RG, the watch felt noticeably thinner. In its favour, imho.

4. The depth between the outer part of the dial, and the inner concentric circles are more magnified in the enamel version, which is probably a product of the process of how enamel dials are made.

5. The amazing level of detail in the black dial is IMMENSE. The subsecond dial is guillauched with concentric circles - impossible to see with the naked eye, only really able to see under the loupe. Another example of how Lange don't cut any corners.

6. I haven't owned a Lange watch yet, let alone the RL PLM, so real owners will obviously be able to comment better. However the black dialed version felt a lot more like a watch you could wear more regularly than the RG enameled version. This is both due to the thickness, and the extra shine form the polished case and glossy enamel dial. Stealth would be a good word to describe it.

All in all, it is an amazing timepiece, and is haunting me deeply.

Hmmm..

black dials are definitely more casual and versatile.. But not very convinced that the Roman numerals (being rather elegant and more formal) goes well with a dark dial..

Many people feel the same as yourself

but I personally love it for the contrast... I feel the numerals pop out more than on a white dial with black numerals. I am a big fan of numerals, and find the Lange numerals to be perfect in every dimension. (On a side note, I am also keen to see the new GO chronometer with the blue dial, and white numerals).

Some have criticized the first Datograph for the same reason-the numerals making it less sporty than a chronograph should be.

I think once you wear the watch a time or two that criticism evaporates.

Very much enjoyed reading your feedback on this watch

This is on my radar, but must be seen in the metal. I imagine it's a difficult watch to photograph. Kind regards,

I'm curious to know your choice

between this black dial PLM and the silver dial RL, if you have to choose only one...
